Don’t miss Moon Hooch & Micromasse at Port City Music Hall tonight

Written by: Holly Nunan

Happy New Year’s Eve Eve, babies! The excitement is palpable and I know that you guys are just as pumped as I am to get this Tuesday night rolling along, so let’s check out what’s shaking this evening!

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street welcomes back local act Pretty Girls Sing Soprano to fill the space with some beautiful sounds. Take in this act’s tight, clever and original harmonies as they take to the stage right around 7 for this free, all-ages show.

The Exchange, an open mic, returns to The Thirsty Pig in the Old Port this Tuesday. This evening’s gathering is open to any and all musicians that are looking to collaborate, showcase, and workshop their original tunes in front of an audience of peers and music-lovers alike. Hosts Jim Betts and Joel Thetford will keep the night rolling with some of their tunes as well as encouraging artists of all ages, genres and abilities to join in on the creative fun. Things get swinging right around 7:30 tonight.

Another great open mic event that is specifically designed for DJs and producers will be happening once again at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland. Tonight’s free event gives record spinners a chance to get up on the decks alongside veteran and resident DJ Kid Ray. All you gotta bring to participate are some records, CDs and a controller. Things get started up right around 9pm.

Moon Hooch, a trio of talented NY musicians featuring two sax players and a drummer whipping up furious, impromptu raves, will be taking over the stage at Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight. The act has toured with the likes of They Might Be Giants, Lotus, and Galactic. Get ready to work it out as Portland’s own world beat/jazz organ-based trio Micromassé opens the night starting at 9 o’clock.

Hang out with local trip-hoppers Jaw Gems down at Local 188 as they serve up some soulful, psychedelic sounds at tonight’s free show, which gets vibing along starting at 10pm.
