Written by: Holly Nunan

All right, my babies, it’s time to take this thing to the limit for another thrilling Thursday! Welcome the weekend with arms wide open (yeaaah, Creed reference; you’re welcome!) by getting out there and getting after it tonight. Here are the haps for this evening!

Get your Thursday night started out right with some Happy Hour tunes courtesy of singer-songwriter Michael Krapovicky as he plays some acoustic tunes up at Rooster’s in Augusta. Michael will be performing both original songs as well as some well-loved covers at tonight’s free event, which gets underway right around 5:30!

A whole lot of power pop action will be happening down in Portsmouth, NH this Thursday as Portland’s own rock n’ roll piano man, Kris Rodgers teams up with Seacoast 60s inspired rockers, The Connection for an evening chock full of good times and good tunes at Paddy’s tonight. The fellas bring some high-energy RnR to life starting right around 6 o’clock.

One of my all-time favorite dudes, the one and only Lyle Divinsky, will be doing his thing outside on the deck of the Porthole on Commercial Street in Portland as he lays down some seriously fun funk, soul and R&B during this free Thursday evening show. Things get underway right around 6 o’clock, so swing through and show this Sasquatch of Soul some love.

Local psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a few of his friends will be playing some tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck in downtown Portland this Thursday. Starting at 6 you can take in this free show that’ll probably consist of both covers and originals, so grab some pals, enjoy a couple cocktails, and let Dom and the gang serenade ya!

Chicago musician Joel T. Henderson will be bringing his combo of folk, country, blues, gospel and classic pop to life with an early evening performance at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Thursday. Starting at 7, enjoy songs and stories from Henderson as well as special guest Rebecca Minnick, formerly of Portland act, The Barn Swallows.

Local soulman Adam Waxmen will be laying it down at a free show upstairs on the Brian Boru patio this Thursday evening as he joins forces with guitarist Joe Farrell for some songs starting right around 7 o’clock.

The Crown Vics will be sneakin’ in a rockabilly dinner-dance party for the whole family into your Thursday night as they prepare to tear things up with their own rockabilly-based riot (after dessert, of course) up at the Watermark Restaurant in Northeast Harbor. Fun for the whole family starts right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re south of Portland and hanging out in the Kennebunk area, take in a free show that’ll be buzzing through The Hive as a group of 4 high school students perform some jazz, blues and popular music standards starting at 8 o’clock.

KahBang Music and Art Festival will be kicking off its first Stripped Down Sessions, a monthly acoustic series featuring bands and musicians that are normally very much plugged in, this Thursday. Tonight’s inaugural gathering will feature a live performance from mid-Coast prig-rockers The 220s. Tonight’s event gets underway at 8 o’clock at the Central Gallery in Bangor and serves as a fundraising event for the festival.

The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook welcomes back local act The Waiters to serve up some quality cover tunes for you to boogie on down to this Thursday evening. This fun troupe of super talented players will be busting out all of your favorite songs starting right around 8 o’clock at this free show.

Get down to a free show at Hollywood Casino in Bangor tonight featuring local country crooner Parris Bacon as he performs live on stage starting at 8. Parris and his band will be playing original pop-country tunes as well as covers from such artists as Elvis Presley, George Jones, George Straight, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams, Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more.

Central Maine pop-rock act, Tomorrow Morning will be doing it to it live at the Old Mill Pub in Skowhegan tonight. These dudes will be playing a variety of covers and original tunes starting at 8.

Steve Jones and friends will be playing some terrific tunes to ease you into Thursday night up at The Liberal Cup in Hallowell. Jones blends everything from rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll and more to create some especially well-crafted jams that’ll be sure to make your ear holes happy. If you’re in the area make sure you swing by, as the show starts at 8 o’clock.

Two talented guys who know how to handle a guitar will be playing live at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Thursday. Join seasoned bluesmen Samuel James and Dana Gross for a night of songs and stories that gets underway right around 9 o’clock tonight.

Some high-grade reggae fusion will bumping every Thursday night out on the Oasis patio in the Old Port as Roots, Rhythm & Dub begin their summer residency tonight starting at 9. Every Thursday all summer long the act will make you dance to some awesome reggae sounds. There’s never a cover charge so check it out if you’re hanging downtown tonight.

Zach Jones will be prepping for his show tomorrow night at Port City alongside Spencer Albee and full cast of talented characters, but for now he and a few friends will be live at Sonny’s in the Old Port. Enjoy some 60s pop perfection with a sweet injection of soul as Zach and friends get things going right around 9 o’clock tonight in the Sonny’s Lounge.
