Dierks Bentley & North of Nashville rock the Maine State Pier

Written by: Holly Nunan

I don’t know about you guys, but I certainly showed Wednesday what was up. I’m feeling pretty good and thinking about doing exactly the same thing this evening. There’s a lot of Thursdaying to be done, so hike up those Party Pants and let’s do it to it!

CMA award winning country singer-songwriter Dierks Bentley will be live on the Maine State Pier in Portland tonight. Hopefully the weather will hold up so y’all can enjoy Bentley’s musical musings, which combine classic country songwriting with influences of bluegrass and rock & roll. Portland’s own duo of good ol’ boys, North of Nashville, will open things up with their own brand of outlaw country as things get underway right around 6 o’clock.

Everyone’s favorite soul singing dude, Lyle Divinsky, will be laying down the funk and soul for a few hours this evening over on the deck of the Porthole on Commercial Street in downtown Portland. Lyle will be crooning away at this free show that gets underway right around 6 o’clock.

Portland indie rockers Forget, Forget will be playing a free show at the Lithgow Library in Augusta this Thursday evening as part of the library’s summer concert series. Things get underway at 6:30 out on the lawn of Lithgow, but will be moved into the library itself if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.

Blue on Congress Street in Portland will be bustling with lots of beautiful bluegrass music this evening as they welcome contemporary bluegrass act Cumberland Crossing to the stage for a set of songs starting at 7. Directly following their set, all are welcome to participate in a bluegrass jam session, that’s slated to get underway right around 8:30.

Local act Pretty Girls Sing Soprano will be filling the space of Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland with some beautiful sounds as they start playing and singing songs together right around 7 o’clock this Thursday evening. If you’re milling around downtown this evening, be sure to stop in and enjoy some of the Girls’ tight, clever and original harmonies during this free show.

Enjoy some delicious wine and spirits as well as some live, local music in the lounge of MJ’s Wine Bar  at One City Center in Portland as jazz act Oirteht, which features musicians Jesse Feinberg, Mai Kheet and Glen Dubose, performs a free show starting at 7.

Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland welcomes local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett to the stage for a set that will showcase his unique blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 7 o’clock tonight, so stop on by and check it out if you’re in the area and looking for something fun and free to do!

Sly-Chi is back and boogie-ing at the Twilight 5K that will be taking place at SMCC in South Portland tonight. Come support some righteous runners who are raising money for the Maine Cancer Foundation and hear some awesome funk courtesy of Sly-Chi! They’ll be rockin’ outside starting at 7.

The Tony Boffa Quintet will be transporting listeners back in time with some old school jazz down at the Frog and Turtle in Westbrook this Thursday evening. Starting right around 8, enjoy some delicious food and tasty beverages as this 5-piece act gets things swinging for this free and fun show.

North of Portland this evening you can check out Sam Shain  live at Roosters in Augusta. Sam will be funking things up with some well-known covers and awesome originals as the party gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re in Bangor this Thursday make some moves to Hollywood Slots for a free show that’ll be featuring local country musician Parris Bacon starting right around 8 o’clock. Parris and his band will be performing original pop-country tunes as well as covers from such artists as Elvis Presley, George Jones, George Straight, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams, Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more.

Local musical duo Tombstone PD will be holding it down at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight with their mix of old and new rock, covers and original jams. Tonight’s free show gets crankin’ at 8.

Overat Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port, the dudes of Hello Newman are ready to pump out the jams with another free Thursday night chock full of tunes. Starting at 9:30, these guys will be rockin’ all of your favorite alternative 90s jams. There’s never a cover, so check it out if you’re feeling a little nostalgic this evening.

Get down to Gritty’s in Portland to check out the fellas in Vinyl Tap as they cover everything from Huey Lewis, Elton John, The Beatles and many, many more. If you’re looking for a non-stop dance party, then swing through as they start playing at 10 and there’s never, ever a cover charge.
