Written by: Holly Nunan

Yaaarrr! I’m so excited about the return of Thursday that I’ve apparently turned into a swashbuckling, seafaring pirate. Meh, whatever, worse things could happen, right? Anyway, without fail tonight is bringing us a surplus of awesome events to check out, so get out there and get your Thursday on, babies!

This Thursday evening take in some great acoustic covers and original songs from Eli Lisa and Ellie Osborn out on the deck of Doc’s Cafe in Cumberland. These two talented local musicians will be playing some live music at this free event, so enjoy some BBQ and other great food as things get underway right around 5 o’clock.

Another great way to get your Thursday night started out right is with some live Happy Hour tunes courtesy of local singer-songwriter Michael Krapovicky at Rooster’s in Augusta. Starting at 5:30 Michael will be playing some original acoustic tunes as well as some well-known covers at this free and fun event.

The 4th Annual Redneck Blank Festival kicks off this Thursday evening. The event hosts thousands of fun-loving people from all walks of life gathered together on a 210-acre farm located in Hebron, Maine to eat lots of great food, do some camping, participate in redneck Olympic-style games, and of course, enjoy tons of live music. Things get shaking this Thursday evening with performances from Dirty McCurdy, 43 North and the Adam Ezra Group. Musical merriment and redneck revelry gets underway right around 6 o’clock this evening.

Everyone’s favorite soul singing dude, Lyle Divinsky is ready once again to lay down some smooth soul, cool funk and rapturous R&B for another free show at The Porthole on Commercial Street in the Old Port tonight. Lyle will be serenading you from 6 to 9 tonight, so stop through and check him out.

Local psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie will be joining a few of his pals for some tuneage out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company in downtown Portland this Thursday evening. Starting at 6 you can check out this free show filled with both Dom’s originals and some classic covers all while overlooking the beautiful and mighty Atlantic. There’s always delicious seafood to be consumed and beverages to sip upon, so swing by if you’re in the Old Port this Thirsty Thursday.

Indulge in some delicious Sicilian style street food (mmm, pizza) while enjoying the live musical stylings of Monarck Lisa, a full-tilt rage of a house band featuring horns, keys, rhythm section and the talented Clara Junken on lead vocals at Slab on Preble Street in downtown Portland this Thursday. The band gets grooving right around 7, so if you’re hungry and looking for something awesome and free to do, be sure to check this out!

Another free, all ages acoustic open mic night is happening over at the Meg Perry Center on Market Street in Portland as they invite any and all musicians to come in and play during their Turnstyle Thursday event. This open mic starts right around 7 and is open to all artists hoping to showcase their musical capabilities in front of an audience of peers.

One Longfellow Square in Portland welcomes two talented guitar virtuosos to their stage for an evening of inspiring sounds. Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo will be taking to the stage right around 8 o’clock this evening. Frank’s imaginative playing has made him the guitarist of choice for many musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, Mark O’Connor, Boston Pops, New York Pops, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his “Five Most Admired Guitarists List” for the Wall Street Journal.
