I know, I know, it’s probably a little too early to already be counting down to the weekend, but you’ve gotta admit it’s nice to have made it to Tuesday and be even closer to the freakin’ weekend. Luckily if you’re like me and don’t know how to behave during the week, there’s a ton of cool things to take in. So get ready to do it to it this Tuesday!
Get things going this Tuesday evening with some live music out on the Portland Lobster Company deck over on Commercial Street in Portland where local rocker and member of The Grumps, Ryan Halliburton will be teaming up with some of his musically-inclined pals to play some fun tunes starting right around 6 o’clock. It’s free and fun, so if you’re looking for something to do a bit earlier in the evening, check it out.
Take in some tunes outside (while you still can!) over at El Rayo in Portland where the always-entertaining Maine Marimba Ensemble will be doing their thing outside on the patio starting right around 7. Tonight’s event is free, all ages, and guaranteed to be a good time, so be sure to swing by and check it out this Tuesday.
Another great night of music will be taking place at Blue on Congress Street in Portland where anyone and everyone is invited to play at this “in the round” style open mic. Throw your name in the hat on the way in the door if you’d like to play, and they’ll draw three people at a time to be in the round together. Pickers can contribute to each other’s songs, or just sit back and listen while two other musicians share their work. A featured performance from local artist Jesse Chazin will be highlighted at around 8:15pm tonight so be sure to stop by and check it out, as everything gets underway right around 7 o’clock.
A full evening of eclectic music will be taking over The Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford tonight as they welcome Vermont Joy Parade to their unique stage. The Vermont Joy Parade is an ensemble, which features banjo, trumpet, accordion, guitar, upright bass, and drums. They group plays everything from Americana to indie-rock, blues, country and everything in between. Tonight’s show gets underway right around 8 with opening sets from local acts Older Men and Gregory McKillop, so be sure to check it out if you’re in the area this Tuesday evening.
Since I don’t have Cover to Cover hosting duties this evening, I think I’ll make my way down the The Asylum and cut a rug with DJs Kurt Baker and Mark Curdo for another installment of Wild Thing! In case you hadn’t heard, Wild Thing is a serious dance party featuring the finest garage rock, mod, wild soul, punk, new wave, surf, maximum R&B and more! It’s a dollar to get in and there are $1 beers and $3 well drinks to keep you hydrated as you hit the dance floor. Things get shaking right around 8:30 tonight, so stretch it out and then check it out!
Flask Lounge in Portland is ready to party with another open mic for DJs with their free dance party, which allows up and coming record spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables during the event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome. Tonight’s DJ open mic begins right around 9 o’clock, so check it out.
It’s Tuesday night, which means it’s time to show Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland what’s up by belting some tunes at this week’s free karaoke party with DJ Ponyfarm. Get ready to belt out all of your favorite 90s jams starting at 9 o’clock.
Open mic night continues at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this evening with lead vocalist of The Dapper Gents, Jacob McCurdy playing and emceeing for this free event. Tonight Jacob invites one and all to show off their stuff starting right around 9:30. If you’ve really got some skills you might even find yourself with a paying gig at Bull Feeney’s, so grab your ax and get ready to do it to it this Tuesday.
The fellas in Jaw Gems are ready to deliver some smooth jazz tunes into your Tuesday evening with a free show down at Local 188 on Congress Street in Portland. Beginning at 10, this group of talented cats will be laying it down for you to enjoy all night long.
