Daft Punk takes on Portishead for this week's Clash at Empire in Portland

This whole time change thing is throwing me for a loop, man. Yes, the days are getting shorter, but that also means in turn that the nights are getting longer, and therefore: more time to party! (Hey, I’m just trying to be as optimistic as possible when it starts to get pitch black outside at 3 o’clock in the afternoon… It ain’t easy!) If you’re looking to get in some quality mid-week partying on this looong evening, here are a few places to check out!

You might be hard pressed to find anything finer than beers, BBQ and good tunes, especially on a Wednesday evening, so don’t snooze on the event happening down at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street in Portland. Starting at 5 o’clock Bunker, Baxter and Rising Tide breweries will be teaming up with Salvage and local indie rock acts, Whale Oil and If and It for a mid-week party that is sure to satisfy not only your tastebuds but your earholes as well.

The Songwriters in the Round showcase is back at the Frontier Café in Brunswick tonight with music from some of Maine’s most prolific talent. Beginning at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some these talented local songwriters to the stage to perform in an intimate, unplugged setting in Frontier’s theatre for a night of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features performances Christian Cuff, Jenny Van West and Doug Kolmar.

Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port is ready for another fun evening of folk tunes courtesy of local duo the Squid Jiggers. These fellas will be creating sounds that perfectly pair with an ice cold pint, so swing on by and check them out if you’re in the downtown area tonight.

Local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting their monthly open mic night down at the Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook. Starting right around 8 o’clock all reasonably capable musicians are welcome to play some tunes during tonight’s event or attendees are also encouraged to come up and sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play some backing music to sing along to. It’s free, and definitely fun so if you’re in the area tonight be sure to stop by and check it out.

Some more open mic action will be happening over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where you can check out local musicians do their thing or even sign up to play some songs of your own. Each Wednesday evening starting right around 8, local singer-songwriter Dustin Saucier hosts this free and fun event.

Ben Kilcollins will be making his way on over to RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland this evening for some acoustic jam action. Ben is a skilled singer-songwriter that you should definitely check out if you’re hanging around the Old Port tonight. His set gets underway right around 9, so stop on by and check it out.

A ton of talented Portland musicians come together to battle musically at this week’s Clash of the Titans at Empire on Congress Street. Starting at 9:30 English trip-hop act, Portishead will take on the French electro duo, Daft Punk for this Wednesday’s match up.
