Cyndi Lauper takes on Kate Bush at this week's Clash of the Titans at the Empire

All right, all right, I know that there is some weather out there, but that shouldn’t deter some of you from getting out and enjoying what is actually still on for this evening. There are a few things to check out around town tonight, so throw those long johns on under your Party Pants and get to where you’re going safe and sound tonight.

If you missed roots Americana act, Gunther Brown, last week at their sold out record release parties (yes, there were two in one night!) for their new album, Good Nights for Daydreams, you’re in luck as this evening they’ll be playing a few acoustic tunes and enjoying a special Gunther Brown Ale from Funky Bow Brewery and Beer Company at The Salt Exchange in Portland. Starting at 7 you can check out some tunes and enjoy some brews alongside these talented fellas at this free and fun event.

Local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting their monthly open mic night down at the Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook this Wednesday. Starting right around 8, all musicians of all capabilities are welcome to play some tunes during tonight’s event. Attendees are encourage to come up and sing along with the fellas or just sit back and enjoy the music. Tonight’s open mic is free and definitely a lot of fun, so be sure to stop on by if you’re in the area this evening

If you’re north of Portland and hanging around the Lewiston area, make your way to Irish Twins Pub for this Wednesday’s open mic night with local singer-songwriter Matt Fournier. Grab your guitar and get ready to play some tunes and have some fun as the event gets underway at 8.

Get warmed up this Wednesday down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port where the Squid Jiggers will be playing their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes. The fellas get the good times rollin’ right around 8, so swing on by and check ‘em out.

If you’re looking for some open mic action in Portland tonight, then head down to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street where you can check out local artists  do their thing or you can even sign up to play some songs of your own. Each Wednesday evening starting right around 8, local singer-songwriter Nick Poulin of Tall Horse hosts this free and fun event.

Hump Day means it’s time to get down at The Asylum in Portland for another Rap Night. Each and every Wednesday Rap Night highlights some great hip-hop acts all night long. This week your hosts Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra welcome showcases from Vermont’s The Lynguistic Civilians as well as a performance from Unnoticed Architects as well as early and late open mic cyphers. Tonight’s part starts at 9 o’clock and is free for the ladies and only $3 for the dudes, so check it out!

The Clash of the Titans continues putting female musicians in the forefront this week as a battle of eclectic, bad ass babes takes over the stage of the Empire on Congress Street in Portland tonight as Cyndi Lauper goes head-to-head with Kate Bush for this week’s engagement. A ton of local talent will come together to pay tribute to each of these ladies starting right around 9:30.
