Clash of the 'Stache as Queen takes on ZZ Top tonight at the Empire

Oh man, I am so ready to wreck this Wednesday! I mean that in the nicest way possible, really. I just have a little too much energy for the middle of the week and I figure I might as well put some of it out there on the town tonight by taking in some of the best music around for what’s certain to be a mid-week rager. Lots of great stuff to see and do, so let’s get this party started, babies!

Every Wednesday local blues act Poke Chop and the Other White Meats host a blues jam at The Big Easy in downtown Portland. If you’re a player, come to play; if you’re a blues lover, come to listen, dance and hang out and hear some of the best blues around without ever having to pay a cover charge. Let the good times roll starting at 7.

Uke n’ Smile’s Dave Jacquet hosts a fun and free open mic night up at Cole Farms in Gray this Wednesday. Grab your acoustic guitar, warm up your voice and get ready to jam as things get underway right around 7:30 this evening.

If you’re north of Portland and kicking it in the Lewiston area, make your way over to Irish Twins Pub for this Wednesday’s open mic night with local singer-songwriter Matt Fournier. Grab some friends and get ready to play as this free event gets underway at 8 o’clock.

Get warmed up this Wednesday down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port where the Squid Jiggers will be playing their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes. The fellas get the party started right around 8 and there’s never, ever a cover charge!

Even more open mic action will be taking place tonight at the Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook where local rockabilly legend Pete Witham will be hosting tonight’s free event. Starting at 8 you can sign up to play some tunes and even check out Pete and his pals as they perform throughout the course of the evening.

Frontier in Brunswick presents another installment of their new entertainment series, Live in the Lounge that hopes to bring you some much needed relaxation as your hurdle the hump towards the weekend. Enjoy some good tunes and good times tonight as local back-porch bluegrass band Tricky Britches sets up shop on stage to perform at this free event starting right around 8.

If you’re in Yarmouth this evening take in some acoustic blues courtesy of local musician Zach Ovington as he plays a free set at Gather starting at 8 o’clock.

The Little Tap House on Spring Street in Portland continues on with its Wednesday night acoustic music series with local soul man Adam Waxman. Adam will be on hand to delight your earholes with some solo jams starting right around 8.

Check out some open mic action in Portland tonight down at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street where local musicians will be gathering to play some tunes acoustically. Every Wednesday local artist Nick Poulin hosts this free event, which gets underway around 8. So if you are a performer, head down and sign up to play some songs tonight.

Mad Dukez and Fresh Kils will be holding it down at Rap Night over at The Asylum in Portland this Wednesday. They’ll be bringing along their pal KemiKAL for a night of raging rhymes and bombastic beats. The party starts at 9 with free entry to the ladies and open mic cyphers to kick off and end the night.

In honor of this Saturday’s upcoming Stache Pag, the Clash of the Titans will be getting in on the facial hair appreciation by pitting two classic rock acts that are well known for their own facial foliage against one another for this week’s battle. Tonight swing through the Empire on Congress Street to check out local rock acts Clubber Lang and Whale Oil as they transform to become Queen and ZZ Top respectively in an epic showdown of beards, bands, and mustaches. The fun starts at 9:30.
