Check out WMPG's Bluegrass Spectacular at Flanagan Farm tonight

I’m very confused by the fact that not only is it Monday, but it’s also freakin’ December! How did that even happen?! I think I need to get out of the house and enjoy some music and perhaps an adult beverage or two because this might be all too much for me to take. Here are the haps for the start of your working week.

Greater Portland community radio station, WPMG has put together a Bluegrass Spectacular that is certain to help you blow those Monday blues away down at The Barn at Flanagan Farm in Buxton this evening. Local bluegrass legends Tricky Britches, The Grassholes, Jerks of Grass and special guests Flight 317 will perform as things get underway right around 6:30 tonight.

Tonight you’ll also find Mike Krapovicky of The Grumps hosting another free open mic event up at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston. Grab an instrument and get ready to play some tunes starting right around 6:30.

Dapper Gents frontman, Jacob McCurdy goes solo this evening with an acoustic set at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland. Jacob will be adding to pop-rock gems to your evening’s soundtrack beginning at 6:30.

Really there’s no need to be bummed out because it’s Monday, instead celebrate the fact that you made it through the entire day with some bluegrass and pizza down at Otto on Congress Street. Tonight local picker Joe Walsh and friends will be providing a mighty fine soundtrack to your evening starting right around 8 o’clock.

Pysch-folk and experimental noise rockers Animal Collective will finally take to the stage of The State Theatre this evening after having to reschedule from a previous date. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock with an opening set from bEEdEEgEE.

Local musicians pay tribute to The Band’s last show, dubbed The Last Waltz, which occurred on Thanksgiving Day in 1976 and featured a plethora of special guests including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Van Morrison to name a few with part two of their awesome cover evening. Tonight Bob Colwell, Pat Colwell, Katie Daggett, Dickie Hollis, Justin Maxwell, Tim Sullivan, Steve Vellani and many other special guests aim to recreate the magic of The Last Waltz at tonight’s special show at Slates in Hallowell. Things get underway right around 8:15 tonight, so if you are in the area, be sure to check it out.

Bust a move this Monday with DJ Jarnstjarna as he spins some tunes down at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 9, check out his creative hybrid of high-energy EMB-electro music paired with smooth vocals.
