I know that I’ve been a wee bit dramatic this week, but seriously, if it weren’t for all of you fabulous babies and all of the live, local music we’ve got going on around us, I think I would have imploded. I have never been so thankful for a Friday in my entire existence (perhaps a bit dramatic?), so let’s show some gratitude together by getting out there and doing it to it this finally Friday!
If you’re out and about in the Old Port early this evening swing over to Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street where alternative rock act Now is Now will be performing a free, all ages set out on the deck starting at 6 o’clock.
Another great Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be happening at Blue on Congress Street in Portland where three terrific songwriters will be taking to the stage right around 6 for a night of songs and stories. Tonight’s free event will feature music from host Shanna Underwood alongside a couple of Portland artists as the trio swaps tunes and tales all right on through the 7:30 hour.
Check out some badass rock n’ roll at Hella Good Tacos’ location on Washington Ave in Portland as El Malo propels your Friday into heavy metal stratospheres the which your face may not fully be prepared to handle without completely melting off. Come for the tunes and stay for the tacos as tonight’s party gets started right around 7 o’clock.
Local musician Ron Cody and a few of his friends will be performing some modern bluegrass tunes over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland starting right around 7 o’clock this Friday. If you’re hanging in the Old Port, be sure to swing through and join in on the fun.
One of my favorite midcoast prog-rock trios, The 220s will be making the trek down to Portland to play a free show out on the Slab patio this Friday evening. This troupe of talented dudes take their influences from The Beatles and Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Rush and more to create a sound that is truly all their own. I know they’ve been in the studio doing a bit of recording on a new record so I’d anticipate hearing some new originals as tonight’s all ages shindig gets started up right around 8 o’clock.
Local organ-based trio, Micromasse will be warming up the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland for groove-based, experimental jazz duo, Charlie Hunter and Scott Amendola. Don’t miss this evening of inventive, inspiring, melodic and mesmerizing sounds as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.
Local folk and blues artist Dana Gross will be playing a free acoustic show up at Guthrie’s in Lewiston this Friday evening. Things get started right around 8 at this all ages event so be sure to stop through if you’re in the area tonight.
Spose kicks off a big ol’ tour tonight with a show up at Tantrum in Bangor. Spizzy will be joined by a few friends such as Brandon Ross, B. Aull, Matthew Stacey, Angel Ideal and more for a party that is sure to pop off. DJs Paul Wolfe and Scrooge Da General will be on the decks as things get going right around 8 o’clock tonight.
If you’re in Westbrook tonight, make some moves over to The Frog and Turtle on Main Street where local act Downeast Soul Coalition will be bringing the boogie with a Friday night show full of solid soul music. Things get underway at tonight’s free shindig right around 8 o’clock.
A really great show will be happening down at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford this Friday evening as they welcome Mount Eerie and special guests Clay Camaro & the Setting Sun and Bad History Month to the stage as things get underway at 8.
LQH, which features local music makers, Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines, will be bringing their melting pot of sounds to the stage of the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Tonight’s free show gets kickin’ right around 8 and showcases such genres as soul, jazz, funk and rock so be sure to stop through and check it out if you’re downtown.
The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach is geared up for another eventful Friday featuring dance pop cover act Tickle. Local rockers Breakthrough will be performing at the Oasis Club in Saco tonight to help raise money for the non-profit organization that strives to help those with addiction problems. A recovery program similar to AA and NA, the Oasis creates an environment where people can get back on their feet again after struggling with addiction. There’s an $8 suggested donation for tonight’s all ages event which gets underway at 9 o’clock.
