Check out tonight’s free show at Slab in Portland featuring Theodore Treehouse and Joe Gallant and The Transit

Holy Mother of Pearl, I think I might have thrown in the towel if it were not for the fact that today is finally Friday. It’s the official start of the freakin’ weekend and there are several fun things to check out, so here we go!

It’s Friday which means it’s time to check out some Happy Hour tunes with local roots rocker Travis James Humphrey at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Starting at 5, Travis will be plucking some strings and singing some things that are certain to get your weekend off to a great start during this free event.

Take in some good times and good tunes out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company as cover act Vinyl Tap rocks it out at a free show starting right around 6 tonight. The fellas will be rocking all of your favorite jams from such artists as Huey Lewis, Elton John, The Beatles, Charlie Daniels, The Band, Cee Lo and many more.


Portland’s 19-piece big band big, the Fogcutters, will be taking their electrifying and always-entertaining live show up to Millinocket for a show at Stearns High School tonight. This evening’s event will go to benefit the performing arts department at the school. Catch these talented cats work it out starting right around 6 o’clock this Friday evening.


Check out some good tunes and good times out on the lawn of Scarborough Public Library tonight as local back-porch bluegrass band Tricky Britches sets up shop to perform at this free event, all ages event. Things get underway at 6:30 so grab a chair or a blanket and enjoy some stellar songs from these talented fellas outside this Friday evening.

Crowd favorites, Kilcollins will be doing their pop-rock thing at The Porthole on Commercial Street in the Old Port this finally Friday. This troupe of talented dudes will get the good times rocking and rolling with their own original songs as well as anthemic cover tunes at this free party as things get underway at 6:30 tonight.

Get your Friday evening started off with some acoustic, light rock at Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland as local musician Jeff Cusack plays a free set of songs beginning at 7.


The Oak and The Ax Fest kicks off tonight with collaborative sets from Big Blood & Video Nasties, Asa Irons & Village of Spaces, Tom Kovacevic & Micah Blue Smaldone, Greg Jamie & Colby Nathan as well as a short video by ID M Theft Able. Things get underway at The Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford starting at 7pm.


If you’re up in Gray this evening check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he performs a free show at Cole Farms starting at 7 o’clock. Ron will be getting your weekend kicked off with tons of great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, The Boss and more.

Legendary recording artist Martin Sexton returns to Maine for a show at the Waterville Opera House this Friday. Known for his enthralling live performances and wide vocal range, Sexton blends together such genres as soul, gospel, country, rock, blues, and R&B. Tonight’s show get underway at 8 o’clock.

There’s a ton of stuff happening early tonight such as the fun event happening over at Thatcher’s in South Portland where starting at 8 Portland’s own The Substitutes will be bringing you the best in old school pop and rock with everything from The Beatles to The Who, The Monkees and more. Even better, this evening’s show is absolutely free, so if you’re looking to wind down your work week with some good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll, swing on by and check ‘em out.

Guthrie’s in Lewiston will be swining as they welcome The Juke Joint Devils back to the stage this Friday evening to kick out some old time, hard driving blues. Tonight’s show gets jumping right around 8 o’clock and is absolutely free.

Local Americana rockers, The ToneKings will be mixing roots and soul tunes together for a delightful concoction of musical goodness down at The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook this Friday. Starting at 8, enjoy some great food, great drinks, and great tunes at this free, all ages event.


What’s better than a free show outside on a patio where you can stuff your face with delicious pizza and enjoy some locally brewed beers and other adult beverages? Nothing! Well, maybe a few things, but you know what I’m getting at! Tonight check out some up-tempo body bobbers from indie rockers Theodore Treehouse and the folk alt-country rock of Joe Gallant and The Transit as tonight’s all ages event at Slab in Portland gets kickin’ right around 8 o’clock.


Folk, blues and folk-rock artist Geoff Muldaur was a huge part of the Cambridge, MA and Woodstock, NY scenes during During the 1960’s and ’70’s and made a series of highly influential recordings as a founding member of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and the Paul Butterfield’s Better Days group, as well as collaborations with then-wife Maria and other notables such as Bonnie Raitt, Eric Von Schmidt, Jerry Garcia, and more. Tonight Muldaur will be live on the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland. This show starts at 8 o’clock.

The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach is geared up for another eventful Friday featuring the dance pop party act known as Tickle. Things get shaking around 8:30 and there’s never a cover charge, so shake your groove thing out on the dance floor if you’re getting wild in OOB tonight!


Local Americana roots rockers the Jason Spooner Band will be livening things up at Gritty’s in Auburn this Friday evening as the fellas play a free show starting at 8:30.


The Colwell Brothers will be rocking and rolling up in Hallowell this finally Friday as they play a free show at the Kennebec Wharf. Check these fellas out if you’re hanging around town as their show gets underway right around 9 o’clock tonight.


It’s been a while since local act Covered in Bees has taken to the stage of Geno’s in Portland to melt some faces with their unique brand of death punk, but tonight they make a triumphant return alongside Portland’s newest punk band The Seasonal Disorders and the all girl rock and rollers of Tiger Bomb. Things get awesome starting at 9 o’clock this Friday evening.


If you’re kicking it in Bangor tonight, head out to Paddy Murphy’s and get ready to party down with The Blast Addicts as they rip through some straight up rock n’ roll for your finally Friday. Bust out some of your best dance moves as tonight’s free show gets underway at 9.

ATOMIK and 32french team up tonight to bring you some high quality techno mixed with some dirty electro to help you move your feet all over the Flask Lounge dance floor. The party heats up starting at 9 o’clock, so swing through and get your freak on!

Join Royal Hammer as they throw down some raging reggae at Mainely Brews in Waterville this Friday. The Hammer will be getting the good times, good tunes and good vibes pumping right around 9:30 at tonight’s free show.

If you’re in Naples tonight, make some moves over to Bray’s Brew Pub where local act Downeast Soul Coalition will be bringing the boogie with a Friday night show full of solid soul music. Things get underway at this free shindig at 9:30.


It’s the last Friday of the month and that means it’s time to shake it out at Empire on Congress Street in Portland at another installment of The Penthouse Dance Party. Things get underway at 10 and feature the very best underground house, techno and dance music around courtesy of DJs Ed Garrison, Christopher Gauthier, Mark Griffiths and Jeremy Chaim. With a door person like Linda Tilapia and professional lighting by Hollie Hallet, it’s the closest you’ll come to a NYC loft party right here in Portland!


Blue welcomes improvisational funk act Grover Cleveland and the Free Funk Machine to the stage for a free night of stellar tuneage. The band will be serving up a diverse range of funk and jazz tunes ranging from John Scofield to A Tribe Called Quest starting at 10 o’clock.
