Today is going to be awesome solely based on the fact that it is Thursday and we are that much closer to the freakin’ weekend! There are also a ton of great shows going on around the state tonight, so I hope you’re ready to throw down this Thursday!

Get your Thursday night underway early with a fun show down at Bunker Brewing on Anderson Street in Portland as they welcome Burlington indie rockers Paper Castles to their unique venue space alongside local acts Lisa/Liza and Hamilton Mckay. Tonight’s show get started early, right around 6 so don’t miss out!

The Dapper Gents will be rocking out some original folk-pop tonight at The Dogfish Bar & Grill on Free Street in Portland. Get ready for some good times and good tunes with these solid dudes who’ll get this free show underway right around 8.

An awesome event for those of you love jazz will be taking place over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port as the venue continues its Jazz Appreciation Month. Tonight the ever-talented Megan Jo Wilson teams up with a trio of talented local musicians for an evening of unique interpretations of great jazz standards as the Birdland Jazz Quartet. Music begins at 8 and rolls right on through to the 9 o’clock hour – and it’s free!

Long Island rock act Taking Back Sunday will be performing live at The State Theatre in Portland tonight. The band is touring in support of their new album, “Happiness Is”. Chances are if you were a teenager growing up in the early 00s, you might’ve taken their debut CD, “Tell All Your Friends” for a spin or two, especially when you were feeling emo. Rounding out tonight’s triple bill are Tonight Alive and Sleepwave. Things get underway at 8 for this all ages show.

Alex Bleeker & the Freaks will be delivering some warm and wistful country-tinged rock n’ roll live at SPACE Gallery on Congress Street in Portland. The act co-headlines tonight’s bill alongside Bar Harbor psych-folk rock act Coke Weed. Psychedelic garage rockers S.S. Cretins will open the night with a set of songs that get started at 8:30.

Clara Junken, one of my most favorite rock n’ roll sirens, will be holding it down solo tonight at Sonny’s in the Old Port beginning at 9. Clara has a bunch of new material to showcase at this free event, so grab some friends, enjoy a delicious cocktail and let Ms. Junken serenade you into the evening hours.

If you’re looking for a straight up dance party, make some moves down to The Asylum in Portland where KJ Sawka will be holding it down tonight. KJ is known as a master of drum and bass drumming and has been involved with some of the biggest names in the EDM scene. He also continues to release top notch work as both a drummer and producer. The Digital Connection, Wobblesauce, FEELS and Dark City Agent will also be on hand to keep the energy up and good times rolling as things get cranking at 9 o’clock tonight.

Local pop-rockers Kilcollins will be playing at their regularly scheduled Thursday night gig down at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland.  Starting at right around 9:30 these gents will be rockin’ and rollin’ to all the tunes you know and love during this free and fun event, so check ‘em out if you’re downtown this evening.

Hello Newman will be pumping out the jams at their weekly free gig upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port. Beginning at 9:30 take a journey to a magical land chock full of 90s alternative rock jams and fulfill a nostalgic desire you never knew you had! Again, tonight’s show is absolutely free, so if you’re looking to jump around to some Chumbawumba, Weezer and more, this is the place to be!

Get after it tonight with some quality hip hop over at the Empire in Portland. Starting at 9:30 you can check out some entertaining rhymes and enticing beats from Turquoise Jeep and Wisdom.

Get down to Gritty’s in Portland to check out the fellas in Vinyl Tap as they cover everything from Huey Lewis, Elton John, The Beatles, Cee Le Green, Charlie Daniels and ton more for a non-stop dance party that’s bound to make you shake your hips. Things get started at 10 and there’s never ever a cover charge.
