Check out Big Blood, Alvarius B and Sam Shalabi at Empire tonight

I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that it’s Monday again. If you’re in as much denial about this as I am, here are some cool happenings to check out that’ll make it seem as if the weekend’s been extended right on through Monday night. 

Get your Monday evening started with some free tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck as The Still, featuring local musician Ryan Halliburton and a handful of his talented pals, will be playing an all ages gig starting right around 6 o’clock. As we near the end of August it’s important to squeeze in as much outdoor fun as possible, so make some moves and enjoy some good times and good tunes this Monday with Ryan and company.


Local pop-rock musician Michael Krapovicky will be hosting another open mic night up at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston this Monday. Starting at 6:30 join Michael for this free and fun event that is open to all musicians who are looking to get up on stage and showcase their talent tonight. 


Jake and Jenn of local act The Honky Tonk Gypsies will be performing a free set of tunes over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in the Old Port this Monday evening. Beginning at 7, stop on by and check out the duo’s mix of classic rock, delta blues, and honky tonk. 


Blue on Congress Street in Portland welcomes two exceptionally talented women to their stage for a night of free music. Check out award-winning songwriter and captivating soprano vocalist, Caroline Cotter alongside NYC’s singer-songwriter Emily Mure as the two trade songs and stories at tonight’s 7:30 show.


Some more open mic action for your Monday will be happening down at the Kerrymen Pub in Saco where beginning at 7:30 solo artists and full bands are encouraged to take to the stage and show off their musical capabilities at this free event. 


You’ve only got a couple more months to enjoy some awesome shows at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford so make the most of your Monday by checking out tonight’s event featuring Santa Cruz folk punk act Blackbird Raum alongside special guests local act Thorn & Shout and Virginia indie folk duo Lobo Marino. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock tonight. 


Some seriously good times and good tunes will be taking place out on the Slab patio in Portland this evening as local musicians Lyle Divinsky, Dominic Lavoie, Tony McNaboe and Adam Frederick team up for a night of free music. Starting at 8 swing by and enjoy some delicious Sicilian style pizza as these fellas serve up some fun cover jams for your Monday night.

Give yourself a pat on the back from surviving another Monday and then make your way down to Otto’s lower Congress Street location to celebrate this achievement with some bluegrass and pizza. Local bluegrass artist Joe Walsh will be joined by a few of his friends to provide a might fine soundtrack to your Monday evening with a free show that gets started right around 8 o’clock. 


Get wicked weird upstairs at Empire in Portland tonight as the venue welcomes a trio of unique and talented acts to the stage. Starting at 9 check out performances from local psychedelic folk act Big Blood alongside Alvarius B, which is the solo endeavor of Allen Baship, well-known for his vocal and bass work in experimental rock act, Sun City Girls, as well as a set from Egyptian-Canadian guitar-oud visionary Sam Shalabi.


Work it on out down at Flask Lounge in Portland tonight with another installment of their Unknown Pleasures dance party. Shake it out to some of the best post-punk, synth-pop, new wave, and goth-industrial jams at this absolutely free party that gets cranking right around 9 o’clock.
