Catch Jimkata and Jaw Gems at Empire in Portland

Oh sweet burping babies (yup, decided to bring that one back into the mix because I mean, COME ON.), I am elated that it is Thursday. I’m not trying to be overly dramatic here, but I’m in dire need of the freakin’ weekend, so the fact that it’s really only hours away is magical to me. If you’re feeling that kind of magic too here are some places to spread the good word!

It’ll probably be a great day for skiing up at The Loaf this Thursday, so if you’re hanging out for the evening be sure to make your way down to The Rack to check out a great night of tunes courtesy of local singer-songwriter Michael Krapovicky. Michael, who is well-known for his work with local pop-rock act The Grumps, will go solo tonight for a set of songs that get underway right around 6.

If you’re looking to kick up your heels to some good tunes tonight then make your way down to Andy’s Old Port Pub in downtown Portland where the Blasted Knoll String Band will be doing their thing. Starting at 6:30 you can take in the act’s blend of acoustic bluegrass and Americana at this free all ages show.

Another great early evening show to check out this Thursday will be happening at Local Sprouts on Congress Street where starting right around 7 o’clock local act Pretty Girls Sing Soprano will be filling the space with beautiful sounds and songs. Enjoy some tasty treats as the act performs their tight, clever and original harmonies.

The Desperate Avikadoz offer up some funky jams down at the Run of the Mill in Saco this thirsty Thursday. The fellas will be bringing the party to life starting right around 8 o’clock at this free, all ages show.

If you find yourself up in Augusta tonight be sure to check out the Bridge Street Tavern for some acoustic jams with local musicianMatt Fournier. Starting at 8, you can check out an unplugged set of songs from Matt. It’s free and sure to be a lot of fun, so stop on by if you’re in the area this Thursday evening.

You can also get your jazz on over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland where Hot Club Du Monde will be bringing their stringed gypsy-jazz jams to the stage right around 8 o’clock. Tonight’s show is free and sure to be swinging, so check it out if you’re hanging around the Old Port tonight.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland is prepared for an evening of local musical mayhem as punk acts Afghan and The Fervents team up with experimental electronic band Waco Sparkler to bring some thunder to your Thursday night. Check out this free show as things get crankin’ around 8:30.

Local music podcast, freezingprocess.net, will be recording a live episode at Geno’s in Portland tonight. This lively podcast has been bringing the music community together through informative and hilarious chats each and every week and tonight they welcome special guests Ryan Augustus, Trails and god.damn.chan to their internet roundtable for a night of stories and hip-hop. It should be an entertaining time with some funny and talented individuals, so swing through and check it out if you’re hanging around this evening.

Hello Newman is ready once again to pump out the jams with a free night of fun upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port. These dudes will be rockin’ out all of your favorite 90s alternative rock jams starting right around 9:30. There’s never a cover charge and it’s always a whole lot of fun, so if you’re feeling a twinge of nostalgia, be sure to check it out.

Local Americana gypsy-rock act, Muddy Ruckus & The Burners will be lighting up the stage at Brian Boru this thirsty Thursday evening. Get ready to stomp your feet and have some fun as things get underway upstairs right around 9:30.

The Empire on Congress Street in Portland has a pretty awesome show happening tonight as they welcome NY indie electro-rock act Jimkata to the stage alongside Portland’s own Jaw Gems. Things are bound to get eclectic, weird and wonderful starting right around 9 o’clock, so check it out.

Portland-based electro-rock duo Contrapposto will be kicking Thursday into high gear down at Port City Music Hall this evening with an opening set for NY’s funkified Kung Fu. Things get underway right around 9 tonight.

Pop-rock it out all night long down at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where local act Kilcollins will be playing all the songs you know and love as well as some of their catchy and fun originals. Tonight’s free shindig gets shaking at 9 o’clock!

Gritty’s on Fore Street has got your dance party needs covered with Vinyl Tap tonight as they cover everything from Huey Lewis, Elton John, The Beatles, Charlie Daniels, Cee Lo Green and a ton more. The party gets started at 10 and there’s never ever a cover charge.
