Brzowski & company bring the intensity to this week's Rap Night at The Big Easy

I hate to play favorites, I really do, but Wednesday are kind of one of my favorite days of the week. Sure, Thursday, Friday, and of course, Saturday are exciting times, but it’s always nice to be able to properly bust out your Party Pants early in the week and Hump Day always seems to have that going on for it, so let’s check out what’s crackin’ this wonderful Wednesday evening.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland invites one and all to come on in this Wednesday evening for some stellar sounds courtesy of Octane. Octane is a group of individuals brought together by local musician Mike James Hayward to recreate jazz and swing standards through Hayward’s own unique interpretation of the genre. There’s never a cover charge and a ton of tasty drinks to be consumed, so check ‘em out right around 6:30 this evening.

The Songwriters in the Round showcase is back at the Frontier Café in Brunswick tonight with music from some of Maine’s most prolific talent. Beginning at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some these talented local songwriters to the stage to perform in an intimate, unplugged setting in Frontier’s theatre for a night of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features performances from Paul Chase, Jr., Heather Hardy and Brad Strause.

Down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port the Squid Jiggers return to the stage with their own brand of folk music that’s perfect to pair with a tall pint of tasty beer. Tonight the duo gets the good times rollin’ right around 8.

Local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting an open mic night at the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook this evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock all reasonably capable musicians are more than welcome to play some tunes or you can come and sing and the fellas in Uke n’ Smile will play the music for you. It’s free, fun and yummy drinks and food are on hand as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check it out.

After 5 months on the road with shows across Europe as well as at SXSW the one and only Brzowski returns to the stage of the Big Easy in Portland for this week’s Rap Night. This insanely talented gent is ready to unpack his critically acclaimed, dense, and intense iteration of hip-hop upon the crowd this evening alongside his fellow lyrists Ceschi and Spoken Nerd as well as DJ Mo Niklz. Don’t snooze on this one, hip hop heads. Things get underway right around 9 tonight.
