Sweet flippin’ Thursday! We’re making some serious strides into the freakin’ weekend and even though it’s been sort of an uphill struggle all week, I have no doubt that today is going to be a good day. There are a ton of shows going on, in and around Portland for you to go out and properly do some Thursday night throwing down, so take a quick gander and get to it!
Bubba’s Sulky Lounge will be lighting up the dance floor for the License to Chill event tonight as Winterkids, the non-profit organization designed to promote lifelong healthy habits for kids through fun, outdoor winter activities holds a fun and funky dance party to raise funds for next winter. Hosted by Frank FM’s Leif Erickson, tonight’s event will feature tons of good food, drinks, auctions, 80s cover band The Awesome and even Olympic Champion Seth Wescott! Bust out some sweet moves and support a great cause, as things get underway right around 5:30 this Thursday evening.
Over at over at Local Sprouts Cooperative on Congress street in Portland local ladies, Pretty Girls Sing Soprano will be filling the space with beautiful sounds and songs. Since their inception Pretty Girls Sing Soprano have quickly turned heads with their tight, clever and original harmonies. You can check them out starting at 7 o’clock.
If you’re north of Portland tonight and find yourself in the Hallowell area be sure to stop by The Liberal Cup where local pop-rockers the Pete Kilpatrick Band will be laying it down this evening. The fellas will get things going with some good tunes and good times right around 7 o’clock.
There’s a ton of fun to be had on Free Street in Portland as two soulful blues and pop rock acts team up for a night of tuneage over at Mathew’s tonight. Beginning at 8, stop on by to see Mystic Folk Opera and The Dappered Gents do their thing.
The Irish are known to say that a good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything, so before you go ahead and crawl into bed you might as well bust a gut to some of Portland’s most talented comedians at tonight’s Local Laughs down at The Asylum in Portland. Tonight get your funny bone tickled by Mark Reilly, Lucas O’Neil, Kevin Neales, Troy Pennell and Luke Hanbury, as things get started (for free!) right around 8.
Down in Dover Rock City there’s going to be one helluva party as two rock n’ roll bands pair up to bring the Thursday night thunder to Fury’s Publick House. Starting at 9, check out electrifying sets from People Skils and When Particles Collide. It’s actually When Particles Collide front woman and all around ass kicker, Sasha’s birthday, so you should definitely swing through, give her a high five, and purchase her a fancy drink for her hatch day!
Flask Lounge in Portland is ready for DJ Kate’s Thursday Night Throw Down Dance Party that is absolutely free and absolutely going to be one of the best times around with tons of booty shaking, drink specials, water bong and many, many more saucy shenanigans. The party starts jumpin’ right around 9 o’ clock.
Take in some stellar thirsty Thursday jams over at The Big Easy in Portland where the one and only Band Beyond Description will be doing their thing all night long. Far more than just your typical Dead Head band, these dudes jam out on everything from The Band, Phish, The Allman Brothers and many more. Tonight except a healthy heaping of good tunes, good times, good people and maybe even a hula hoop or two. The party starts right around 9, so go on and get your noodle on.
The super fun fellas of local cover act, Vinyl Tap will be back at it again as they join forces to play a plethora of songs that are certain to get you to shake what your mama gave ya. Beginning at 9 you can check these cats out as they cover everything from Stevie Wonder to The Beatles, Cee Lo, Huey Lewis and many more over at Gritty’s in Portland’s Old Port.
Right across the street at Bull Feeney’s the dudes of Hello Newman are ready to pump out the jams with another free night of tunes. Starting at 9:30, the fellas will be rockin’ all of your favorite 90s tunes. There’s never a cover, so check it out if you’re feeling a little nostalgic this evening.
Work it out on the Slainte’s dance floor tonight with another edition of DJ Silverchild’s Hang The DJ. Tonight he’ll be busting out jams from The Cure, The Pixies, Morrissey, Bjork, The Offspring and so much more starting right around 10 o’clock.
