A Murder of Crows flocks to The Big Easy for some fun & funk

Oh hey there, rockers and rollers, I am so ready and rearing to get this weekend party started! Just one last push and then it’s here, babies, and I’m gonna have me some fun! Things kick off with a mighty, big bang this weekend so make sure you’ve done your stretches, taken your vitamins and pressed those Party Pants because it’s high time that we do it to it this evening! Let’s roll!

Local blues-rock act, The Shambles will be doing it to it at The Common Good Café in Southwest Harbor this evening to help raise money for the business, which helps those in need throughout the community all year long with food, cash and general good will. A $10 donation is suggested as things get underway at 6 o’clock this Friday evening.

Local pop rock band Serious Rooms is gearing up for the release of their first album Random Universe with a live in-studio performance on WMPG’s Local Motives this evening. The band, which draws influences from the likes of Elvis Costello, The Beatles, Squeeze, The Kinks and more, will be performing songs of the new record as well as chatting about all things music, so tune in right around 7:30pm before you head out onto the town tonight.

The Desperate Avikadoz offer up some funky jams down at JP Thornton’s in South Portland this finally Friday night. The fellas will be bringing the party to life starting right around 8 o’clock, so if you’re in the area swing through and check ‘em out.

It’s gonna get awesome at Port City Music Hall in Portland as Too Late The Hero takes to the stage for an all ages show tonight. Too Late The Hero hails from Southern Maine and should definitely be checked out by anyone who digs such acts as Brand New, Thrice and Glassjaw as you’ll definitely enjoy tonight’s show with Mara and other special guests. Things get cranking right around 7 o’clock tonight so check it out.

Those foot stomping outlaws known as North of Nashville never, ever slow down and that’s why you can check them out tonight out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company. The boys will be singing all of your favorite rockin’ country tunes outside for free starting right around 7 o’clock.

Folk rock trio Silent Sam & The Evans will be pleasing earholes this evening as they play a free show starting at 7 o’clock over at Local Sprouts. These fellas will put a little pep in your step this Friday evening, so be sure to swing through and check ‘em out.

A evening chock full of tremendous indie-electronic music will be taking SPACE Gallery in Portland by storm this Friday. Glass Fingers’ Jesse Gertz releases a full-length album, Infinity, under his latest project known as Levert alongside supporting performances from A Severe Joy, Contrapposto and Dessert Lips. This should be a stellar show full of unique and interesting sounds so check it out as it gets underway right around 8 this evening.

Boston-based string band, Joy Kills Sorrow returns to Portland tonight for an evening of tunes at One Longfellow Square on Congress Street. This act conjures up old-world sounds with a touch of modern sensibility. Opening tonight’s show will be local act, Darlin’ Corey who’ll get things going at 8 o’clock.

The Hive in Kennebunk will be buzzing with some pleasing sounds courtesy of local jazz ensemble The Sensations this evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock you can check out this act as they jazz up your Friday night.

Beginning at 8:30 this evening you can check out some good eats and tasty tunes down at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook where Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be taking over with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly.

A full on punk rock show takes over Mathew’s in Portland tonight as Dead Man Ramsey, A Minor Revolution and The Partials join forces to prove that rock n’ roll ain’t noise pollution. The fun starts at 9 o’clock this finally Friday evening.

Sorry to say this yet again, but our days are becoming numbered for evenings to be spent out on a deck sipping a cold adult beverage whilst listening to some tasty tunes. Hang on to these moments down at The Pier Patio Pub in Old Orchard with some live, hip-hop courtesy of JB5. These cats will be bringing the Friday night thunder to the pier starting at 9 o’clock.

There’s nothing finer than some reggae on a summer evening and if you’re jonesing for some jah then make your way on down to The Asylum in Portland where Morgan Heritage will be pumping out the jams starting at 9.

Relentless Belanger moves on to Night Two this evening as musicians all over town come together to show support and raise money for one of the biggest music supporters there is, Mr. Mark Belanger. Tonight things get loud and super awesome as Covered in Bees, MAN-WITCH, Hessian and Johnny Cremains take the stage of Geno’s in Portland to help gather funds for Mark’s lymphoma treatment. Things get started right around 9 and there’ll even be a raffle to win gift certificates to Sanctuary Tattoo as well as Buckdancer’s Choice. Great music for a great cause, so please be sure to check it out tonight.

Oh boy, oh boy! A Murder of Crows returns to the stage of The Big Easy in Portland tonight.  I’m pretty certain that tonight’s funkalicious show is going to be a doozy as the 12-piece band prepares to create tons of funk and soul for your funk and soul holes starting right around 9 o’clock. Fronted by the insanely talented, Kenya Hall, A Murder of Crows covers everything from James Brown to Tower of Power to Sharon Jones to many, many more.  If you’re looking to shake what your mama gave you, get on over on down to The Big Easy tonight.

Two pop-rock troubadours get ready to serenade the Blue Mermaid in Portsmouth a mix of original tunes paired with some clever covers tonight. Starting at 9 o’clock check out Hutch Heelan and Jake Roche as they team up for a night of guitars, songs, drinks, and fun.

Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge invites y’all to do what you like at this evening’s Whatever You Want Dance Party with DJs Cheros and Cherry Lemonade. Dancing, fun and doing as you please is the them for tonight’s festivities, which will also feature performances from Aquarius Funk as well as many, many others. Things get started right around 9.

Take in some Americana roots meets high-energy rockabilly courtesy of Ragged Jack who will be doing their thing down at Last Call in Old Orchard Beach this Friday evening. This local act will be taking it to the limit starting right around 9 o’clock.

Attention Dance Floor Faithfuls, if you’re looking for some of the smoothest house grooves to shake your can to then look no further than Flask Lounge in Portland where Mr. Dereloid and Boston’s Tom Bartlett will be teaming up for a solid four hours of good vibrations. Bust some moves at this free dance party beginning at 9 o’clock.

Gingko Blue will be jumping this Friday evening as they welcome Tommy O’Connell & The Juke Joint Devils to their fine establishment to play some tunes this evening. Starting at 9, check out some old time, hard driving and swinging blues as the band kicks out the jams all night long.

North of Portland, over at Chummies in Ellsworth, The Blast Addicts will be partying with straight up rock n’ roll this Friday evening. Starting at 9:30, bust out those Party Pants and get ready to bust out some moves with this super fun rock band.

Bull Feeney’s in Portland has a little bit of something for everyone this evening as they present two shows upstairs and downstairs. Starting at 9:30 downstairs you can check up a solo acoustic set from local singer-songwriter Matt Fournier. Also starting at the same time, but upstairs and also for free, are The Dapper Gents who’ll be rocking their brand of acoustic folk-pop tonight. Anticipate some good times and good tunes both up and down this evening.

If you’re looking to get a little weird tonight then get on over to Brian Boru in Portland where you can check out Velourosaurus. That’s right, Eric Bettencourt is back in town so he’s ready to tear it up with his old cover band Velourosaurus. Beginning at 9:30 the fellas will be bringing you the best jams with selections from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Daniels, Cee Lo Green, and many more.

Check out some live, local surf rock for free out on the Amigos patio in the Old Port where Thee Icepicks will be doing their thing starting at 9:30.
