A multitude of Maine musicians share the stage of OLS during tonight’s benefit for Noyes Street Fire victims

Written by: Holly Nunan

It’s time to kick-start another wild week of local music! Lots of great things to see and do, so start the party early by making the most of your Monday and checking out the happenings that are taking place all around Portland and beyond.

I think my fellow MaineToday blogger, Aimsel Ponti said it best when she wrote, “The music community here in Portland understands that music can help, music can heal, music can honor, music can raise awareness, music can bring people together and music can most certainly raise much needed funds.” That being said a wonderful group of talented local artists will be taking to the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland to honor the victims of the Noyes Street Fire and their families and friends by performing tunes all evening long during this special benefit event. One hundred percent of the proceeds from tonight’s show will go to the families of those affected by this unthinkable tragedy. Not only that, but several local businesses including Bonobo Wood Fire Pizza, Haberdashery, LFK, Snow Squall, See Soul Designs, Ponomo, and several more have donated goods to a raffle that will be taking place. I am honored that Maine music lover and avid supporter Arlyn Vaughan asked me to help co-host this event alongside WMTW’s Katie Thompson. Arlyn has been working hard to put this evening together to support and honor those affected by the fire as well as bring together the local community through the power of song. Doors will open at 6pm with music beginning shortly thereafter. I anticipate many heartfelt sets of songs from Samuel James, Jeff Beam, Ryan Halliburton, Clara Junken, Renee Coolbrith, Dean Ford and Sorcha Cribben-Merrill as they bring us all together in a very special way this Monday evening.

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland welcomes back Poor Howard for some acoustic, old school Louisiana blues this Monday. Tonight’s all-ages, free show starts up right around 6:30pm.

Join Michael Krapovicky as he hosts the 3 year anniversary party for open mic night at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston tonight! Michael will be joined by a slew of special guests including Justin Lindsay, Jeffrey Kilton, The Depths, Ron Bergeron, The Dumingo BummahShow, ThE GoOdS, The Flying Otters, Rachel Ann Blackerby, Dan Bisbee, The Spindles, and a host of others! Lots of great local talent to take in and celebrate as this evening’s special open mic event gets underway right around 7 o’clock.

Flask Lounge presents an early and free show for your Monday evening that features two tremendously talented local indie rock artists. Check out sets from Caleb Orion and Typhoid Jonny as the pair bring the acoustic party to life starting right around 7 o’clock tonight.

Make the most out of your Monday with some tasty pizza treats and awesome jams at Slab on Preble Street in Portland as local DJs Mosart212 and El Shupacabra spin some of the best old school hip-hop, soul, jazz, Motown, and R&B during tonight’s free shindig. Things get started right around 7 o’clock, so treat yourself and check it out.

If you’re hoping to check out some open mic action south of Portland this Monday evening, make some plans to head down to the Kerrymen Pub in Saco where beginning at 7:30 both solo acts and full bands are encouraged to take to the stage and perform during tonight’s free event.

Some bustling bluegrass fun happens once again at Otto’s lower Congress Street location this Monday as local musician Joe Walsh and a few of his talented pals will be teaming up for a night of fun and music. Grab a delicious slice of pizza and enjoy some great tunes as this free event gets started at 8 o’clock.

A handful of talented Maine musicians are set to pay tribute to The Band’s last show, known as The Last Waltz, which occurred on Thanksgiving Day in 1976 and featured a plethora of special guests including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Van Morrison to name a few. Tonight Robby Coffin, Bob Colwell, Pat Colwell, Katie Daggett, Dickie Hollis, Justin Maxwell, Tim Sullivan, Steve Vellani , Dave Wakefield many other special guests aim to recreate the magic of 37 years ago at tonight’s special show at Slates in Hallowell. Things get underway right around 8:15, so if you are in the area, be sure to check it out.
