A Final Formal Farewell for Model Airplane tonight at The Big Easy

I have to let out one giant Liz Lemon FLURGH right about now. I know that I’ve been a wee bit dramatic this week, but seriously, if it weren’t for you fabulous babies and all of the live, local music we’ve got going for us, I think I would implode. I have never been so thankful for a Friday in my entire existence, so let’s show some gratitude together by getting out there and doing it to it this finally Friday!

The Poprocks will be getting your Friday evening started early with a how at Fire House Grille in Auburn. Starting at 4 o’clock these fun lovin’ fellas as they bounce around from decade to decade covering all the pop, rock, country and more that your little heart could desire.

For anyone who enjoys a good stack of wax as much as I do, be sure to check out the Portland Record Party tonight hosted by UpTown Vinyl and the Portland Flea-for-All over on Kennebec Street in Portland. Vendors from all over New England will converge for a First Friday full of fun, vinyl, CDs, 33s, 45s and more featuring all genres of music at all prices. The fun gets underway right around 5:30, so swing through and check it out if you’re in the market for some new or old tunes.

ROOST House of Juice on Free Street in Portland welcomes local singer Monique Barrett to their abode for an evening of music. What better way to enjoy a delicious smoothie than with some soulful folk sounds courtesy of this wickedly talented local siren? Grab some friends and enjoy some good tunes, good times and good juice starting at 7.

Singer-songwriter Rod Picott will be live and local at St. Lawrence Arts up on Munjoy Hill in Portland this evening. Picott was voted Songwriter of the Year by the Freeform American Roots Radio Reports and has been referred to as one of Maine’s finest songwriters. His album, Welding Burns, spent 10 consecutive weeks on the AMA chart. Be sure to check out tonight’s stellar show, as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.

If you find yourself frolicking around the Auburn area this Friday evening, be sure to make your way over to Naral’s where starting at 8 you can check out energetic rock n’ roll from The Mad Mulligans and Sonic Paradigm.

Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost will be bringing some fine Americana music to life down at Elements: Books Coffee Beer in Biddeford this Friday evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock Underwood joins forces with Devon Colella on cello, Drew Wyman on bass, and Greg Bjork on mandolin for some stellar musical sounds.

If you’re down in Dover Rock City this evening be sure to check out a show chock full of greasy, Americana roots rock over at the Dover Brickhouse where Boston’s Coyote Kolb teams up with The Mallett Brothers Band and Nashville’s own Matt Mills for a night of whiskey drinking and guitar slinging. The party starts at 8.

Also happening in the Seacoast area tonight is a great show that focuses on some terrific female-fronted acts over at The Red Door in Portsmouth. Starting at 8 o’clock you can check out sets from Clara Berry as well as The Reverie Machine. These ladies have some serious talent so don’t miss out if you’re hanging around the southern P-Town tonight.

Prog-rock trio, The 220s will be putting on one helluva show up at the Black Anchor Village Pub in Blue Hill, Maine tonight. The 220s take their influences from The Beatles to Pink Floyd to Radiohead and create something that is truly all their own, check ‘em out starting at 8:30.

The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook welcomes The Portland Rhumba Project to their stage this Friday evening for some live music. Starting at 8:30, these fellas will be performing classic radio hits from Zimbabwe and beyond. It’s free, fun and there’s plenty of delicious food and drinks to be had, so be sure to check it out.

If you’re up in the Waterville area this evening local rockers and rollers The Grumps will be providing the soundtrack to your Friday night shindig starting right around 9 o’clock over at Mainely Brews.

If you’re looking to take in some acoustic sounds this evening, be sure to check out tonight’s show happening at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where starting at 9 you can check out sets from Bryan McPherson, The Outsiders (performing a special stripped down set), Lisa/Liza and Stefan Henegar.

Velourosaurus will be bringing the party all the way up to Rangeley, Maine this evening as they play at Moose Alley. Moose Alley is a one-of-a-kind venue up in Rangeley that not only features a bowling alley and live music, but there’s an indoor fire pit as well; it’s pretty badass. Velourosaurus will be providing the soundtrack for a party this evening with their rock/funk/jam explosion starting at 9.

As you all know, local funk, soul, and R&B act, Model Airplane has been funking it up each and every Monday down at The Big Easy in Portland this summer. Tonight they go out with an epic final send off as the summer series known as Funky Mondays draws to a close this First Friday. Tonight come celebrate in style during their final formal send off, wherein wearing some formal duds will get you in the door at a discounted rate. Get ready to rage starting at 9 o’clock.

Sam Shain and The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party up to the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight where they’ll play some of their original songs as well as everything from Snoop Dogg, Johnny Cash, Parliament and more. The good times start rollin’ right around 9 o’clock.

Geno’s in Portland gears up for a full night of ridiculously awesome rap as Brzowski takes to the stage alongside Boston’s punk-rap act Boogie Boy Metal Mouth, local emcee, Ryan Augustus, and hip-hop band, Violently Ill. The party starts right around 9:30 this Friday evening.

Fridays are generally one of the best times to shake what your mama gave ya, so you might as well do just that tonight by getting down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE will feature O’Sullivan bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free event starting right around 9 o’clock.

Double the First Friday fun will be happening at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight as you’ve got two chances to do something awesome both downstairs and up starting at 9:30. Downstairs you can take in some acoustic pop gems from Jacob McCurdy and upstairs you can put a little dip in your hip with funk band Mama’s Boomshack…or you can get the best of both worlds and hop up and down the stairs all night long as both events are totally free! Either way, it’s a total win-win situation, so do it to it!
