6gig & Taproot blow the roof off the Dover Brickhouse tonight

All right, another wet, wild and white one is scheduled for this Thursday evening, but it’s the last Thurdsay in February so you might as well throw on some long johns, button up those Party Pants, and trudge on downtown for some good tunes, good times, and good people because March is in like a lion and out like a lamb and you might as well show it what’s up! Here we go!

Let’s start in downtown Portland tonight where singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Zimmerman will be playing some of his urban-folk/indie-rock style jams at Local Sprouts on Congress Street this evening. Beginning at 7 o’clock you can check out a free show from Zimmerman and special guest Rob Horne on piano. It should be a great way to spend a chilly Thursday evening, so check it out!

Steve Jones will be playing some tunes off of his latest album Listening during this evening’s show at The Liberal Cup in Hallowell. Jones blends everything from rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll and more to create some especially well crafted tunes that’ll be sure to make your earholes happy. If you’re in the area this evening make sure you swing by, as the show starts right around 7 o’clock.

Looking to get your fill of some happening hip hop this evening? Then head up to Iron Trails Saloon in Acton for a night of rhymes and rhythm courtesy of Click North, Rize 8 and Haze. Things get jumping right around 8.

I had an absolute blast last week checking out Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies downstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. Each thirsty Thursday the fellas bring the rockabilly/honky-tonk party to the downstairs area of the venue for a set of free tunes that kick into high gear right around 7:30.

Upstairs at around 9 o’clock or so at Empire, three local indie rock acts team up for a Thursday full of imaginative tunes. Tonight ForMorning and Rural Ghosts are actually releasing a split single alongside the newly formed band Texarkana. This should be a great show full of new, local talent so stop on by and check it out tonight.

Lover of all things music, Greg Martens kicks off his 50th birthday bash this evening with the first round of the F.O.G. (Friends Of Greg) Festival down at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 9 you can check out the Spin Doctors’ lead singer Chris Barron get down with Lazy Lightning and Band Beyond Description.

Local bluesmen Samuel James and Dana Gross team up to bring you a night of tunes over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Starting at 9 o’clock these talented fellas will be singing some tunes and plucking some guitar strings to help you thoroughly enjoy your Thursday evening, so check it out.

Thursdays generally mean that it’s time to shake what your momma gave ya and you can do just that all night long over at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where another Blaq Dada Dance Party commences right around 9 o’clock. Hosted by DJs Bary Juicy and Che Ross, it’s guaranteed to put a little dip in your hip, so swing on by if you’re looking to get tonight!

If you’re south of Portland tonight and looking to have your hair blown back by some exceptionally loud and super kick butt rock and roll then make your way down to The Dover Brickhouse in Dover, New Hampshire where Portland act 6gig will be performing with Michigan face-melters Taproot. Things get cranked to at least eleven starting right around 9.
