The next Great Maine Outdoor Weekend is this coming weekend, February 12-14. From all I can gather, it’s going to be a heckuva good time in the Maine outdoors, whereever you are and whatever you do. With 100 events, more or less, from hiking, skiing and snowshoeing to birding, dances, carnivals, festivals, book readings – you name it – there’s surely something fun for everyone of every interest and ability all over the state.
GMOW has been happening a couple times a year since at least 2014. Each big weekend, whether it’s winter or summer, offers a wealth of organized events led by outdoor oriented organizations and companies to celebrate the how, where, and what of being active outside in Maine. The overarching goal of GMOW is to connect friends and neighbors from around Maine and beyond with our amazing natural world, and to promote fun, physical activity and good health throughout it all. I think it’s working!
This Saturday I’m planning on joining up with the good folks from the East Coast Greenway Alliance, Frenchman Bay Conservancy, and the Downeast Sunrise Trail Coalition for a cross-country ski, snowshoe, or hike on the Sunrise Trail in Ellsworth. Should be a fine way to celebrate Great Maine Outdoor Weekend! Hope you’ll get outside too.
Check the GMOW calendar and then gear up to get out and have fun!
