Holiday gift picks from Portland Flea-for-All

The “flea”, as it’s now known, was that missing link in the Portland community. Now that it’s here, it’s a wonder how we ever lived without it. Not only is it a source of vintage at affordable prices, but it’s brought a community of artisans and small business owners together in one grand, three-storied space. It’s also a great place to check out to get everyone on your list something special in one fell swoop.

Erin and Nathaniel, hubby/wife team and owners, are probably the best gift givers in the world. This holiday season they’re gifting family and friends lots of handmade and vintage. Antique books, like a 1st ed. Mastering the Art of French Cooking, by Julia Child; a pictorial history of Herreshoff boats, vinyl and anything from Portland General Store are on their “gifts to give” list.  Erin also likes to give vintage clothes, like a Pendleton Jacket or a 1920’s Cloche Hat. “I spend pretty much the entire year looking for signature pieces that friends and family will love for the holidays. Of course about 20% of the time I get attached and end up keeping them, but that’s neither here nor there,” she says.

And what to give someone that’s impossible to shop for? Why a gift certificate to the flea of course! “This way, they can pick out whatever they need, or splurge on themselves,” says Erin.See something you like? Stop on in the shop or give them a ring! They’re always posting new arrivals on their Facebook page too.
