What do you get when you take a husband and wife team of talent (one’s an illustrator, the other a musician) and have them put together a shop of handmade and vintage things? You get Pinecone + Chickadee. There’s no store like it in Portland. On any given day, you can find silkscreened tees, handmade jewelry and one-of-a-kind items like a giant vintage cat bank. It’s the store you visit when you want to buy something for the person that has everything. Or the person that’s impossible to please. It’s hard to walk out of there without something that will make squeal with unabashed joy.
Owners Amy Teh and Noah DeFilippis culled a few of their favorites. And what are they on the hunt for this holiday season? “My older son, Darby, is in a play right now of The Velveteen Rabbit. He just got a velveteen rabbit for his birthday, so for Christmas I’m looking for vintage toys of different characters from that book, like a horse, wooden lion, and wind-up mouse,” says Amy. Well if anyone can find a vintage wind-up mouse, my money’s on P+C.
