OK. OK. So parts of Maine got dumped on with something like 20 inches of snow last week. So your favorite trail is still buried under layers of crusty white stuff. So you still have to navigate over and around patches of ice wherever you go.
So.
Despite the lingering cold, ice and snow, cycling season is just around the corner. Really.
I know this because the Bicycle Coalition of Maine has begun promoting its Great Maine Bike Swaps. Your chance to swap out some old wheels for ones that are newer – or maybe just different – comes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 13 in Orono and April 27 in Portland. Up for grabs will be road bikes, mountain bikes, kids bikes and hybrids.
You can also sell a bike (find info here). Bikes must be dropped off at the swap sites on April 12 and 26.
Watch here to find out more:
If you’re still in love with your current bike but want to get involved, the BCM is looking for volunteers to help during the swap.
The Orono event will be held in the New Balance Student Recreation and Fitness Center on the University of Maine campus. The Portland event will be held at Sullivan Gym on the USM campus in Portland.
Admission to the events is $3.
