“This Wonderful Life”

7 pm, Mon, Dec 17, One Longfellow Square, Portland, $18

We’ve seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” a thousand times. And it’s a darn wonderful tear-jerker every time, what with its desperation and life affirmation, a sprint down the snowy main drag of Bedford Falls and a brawl at Nick’s bar, a whack on the ear and the jingling of a bell.

We know this story. And the characters in it have become funny, curmudgeonly, and oh-so-generous friends we look forward to seeing every year, at least on the TV.

But at One Longfellow Square we can see them in person – one person, in fact. His name is Jody McColman, and he’ll be playing every character – George Bailey and Clarence the Angel, Mary, Old Man Potter, and all the citizens of Bedfall Falls – in “This Wonderful Life.”

It’s impressive on-stage multi-tasking. And it’s still the story we love, told in a whole new one-man kind of way.
