Until very recently, I’d never heard of Nordstrom Rack. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s an off-price division of Nordstrom with a collection of clearance items from Nordstrom stores. I got to swing by last night before the big grand opening tomorrow. Here’s a sneak peek!
Many of you in the twitterverse keep telling me to check out the Catholic Charities Thrift Store (244 St. John Street) so on a recent Saturday, when I found myself at Maine Hardware looking for polyurethane, I decided to stop in.
I’m on the hunt for some of the best closets in Portland. Do you have what it takes for me to want to crash your closet? Do you organize your clothes by color? Does your tiny apartment have a HUGE walk-in? Do you have a vintage collection that would make a grown man or woman cry? If so, I want to see it. Click through to see stylist Ashley Jordan’s closet for some organizing inspo.
When I’m not busy instagramming photos of my cats, I’m generally using one of these fashion apps on my phone. In love with a dress but want to make sure you’re getting the best deal? I’ve got an app for that. Want help deciding what to wear based on the weather outside? There’s an app for that too. Happy downloading!
Sometimes when you do a closet clean-out, it’s painful to see a huge pile ready for the Goodwill bin. I get it. Especially when you remember spending a sizable amount of money on an item that was barely worn. If you’re looking to turn some of your clothing trash into some treasures, here are the shops in town that you can sell your clothes for cash or credit.
Portland has no shortage of great vintage clothing. Moody Lord’s deserves to be right up there as one of the best shopping spots for vintage garb. Originally located on the second floor above Strange Maine, they’ve been in their new street level locale since last spring. If you happen to be a purveyor of great records and threads, you’ll find yourself in a shopping mecca.
We know there are a plethora of amazing local storefronts that sell vintage in Portland. But what’s a guy or gal to do when they want to do some online shopping on their lunch hour? Luckily for you, there’s still plenty of buy local options with online shops. Click right this way.
Over the weekend I did something I don’t usually like to do: I left the state of Maine. Many of you have told me that Savers is one of your go-to shopping destinations for great vintage and good deals, so I thought I’d do some investigative journalism/shopping. I headed over the border and this is what I discovered.
Next up in our shopkeeper series, meet Amy Teh, owner of Pinecone + Chickadee. Amy weighs in on her second favorite place to shop and where to find wasabi lobster rolls. Yum.
