Being a “Santa believer” never lasts. One minute we’re falling asleep at our bedroom window listening for the sound of hooves on the roof and the next minute we’re rolling our eyes at every hint of the holidays because it’s all a big commercial scam anyway.

But if we could get a little bit of that holiday magic back, wouldn’t we want to? And if we could give it to someone else – someone small who hasn’t stopped believing yet – shouldn’t we? Yes and yes.

Santa likes a paddle: Santa SUP cruise in Portland Harbor

On Sunday, nine Santa-loving paddleboaders took to the water in Santa suits and Santa hats and Santa beards (and all the cold-water gear and personal floatation devices we could muster) for the third annual Santa SUP. The cold-weather cruise was organized by Rafael Adams, owner of SoPoSUP, a paddleboard shop in South Portland.

Santa likes a little paddle on occasion. Who doesn’t? And he’ll get in on Sunday 3rd annual Santa SUP cruise in Portland Harbor. Standup paddleboarders will take to the water in full Santa regalia – the red suits, the beards, the personal floatation devices – for a tour along South Portland’s waterfront. And maybe a pitstop for eggnog.
