This weekend will be perfect for a beer scavenger hunt, because weekends are always a great time to hunt for beer. Portland Beer Week is coming to a close on Sunday, so check the schedule for all the weekend events. And remember, you can still drink beer the rest of the year, so all is not lost. There’s a Tweed Ride, too, for those of us who are fond of fake British accents and wool, and a Medieval feast for folks who have a strong dislike for utensils. And comic fans shouldn’t miss Comicon, or their chance to serve chili to Leatherface.

Halloween seems like the big player this weekend. And yes, you’ll deck yourself out in some amazing creation that’ll blow everyone’s mind and maybe even win you some cash at one of the night’s Halloween parties. But what happens the rest of the weekend? Will you be left to deal with your Halloween hangover and the leftovers of your costume until Monday morning arrives again? Heck no! There’s plenty of joy to be had after Halloween. Portland Beer Week starts Friday and runs until Nov 10. Part of that “week” includes the Maine Brewers Festival this Saturday. There’s also a chance to do go on Saturday (after all the bad you’re going to do Thursday night) with the Cranksgiving bike race. And to keep things at least a little creepy, at least for a few extra days, “Carrie the Musical” performances happen all weekend.

The air temperature may have dropped, but your enthusiasm for doin’ stuff hasn’t waned. Sure, there’s noticeably less daylight these days and you sometimes feel like sleeping at 7 pm, but on the upside, that darkness is perfect for all those haunted Halloween events. Besides, cool weather makes the slumber bed races and costumed 5Ks more comfortable. And oh, the harvest dances and wine drinking and beer and pulled pork! My point: Fall is here. And it’s ready for you. And you’re going to get out there and love every minute of it. Because this is Maine. Do stuff.
