There’s no shortage of adventure in Maine. Over the years I’ve learned that I’m a terrible skier, an excellent paddleboard jouster, and not trustworthy with a fly fishing rod. But I’ve learned some unexpected life lessons, too – sage words of adventurer’s advice that come in handy long after the crampons come off.

Ice was, in my opinion, a harbinger of tailbone hurt. A temporary cold-weather fixture, no more reliable than a cloud of smoke.

The thought of climbing some up-ended glacier was out of the question. It was unfathomable. It was…inevitable.
