My secret weapon is the German Pancake, which is basically an enormous popover cooked in a cast iron skillet. It’s eggy, buttery, and idiot proof, and in two minutes of active time and less than half an hour in the oven, it’s a godsend for busy people. When it comes out of the oven puffed six inches above the pan, the kids will freak.

If you can get your hands on maple syrup (and a candy or digital meat thermometer), you can make th at home. Parents, even though you’ll lose about half the volume to evaporation, it’s worth doing…especially if you’ve ever watched in vain as your kid “accidentally” dumps about $19 worth of the liquid stuff on her breakfast plate. Feeling crafty this holiday season? If my pinterest board is any indication, I’ve apparently turned into a mini Martha Stewart this year.
