If you’re like me, then you appreciate a night of arm wrestling. And you also appreciate good spanakopita, small dogs in costumes, and strangers who touch the bumps on your head. This weekend was made for folks like us. Lewiston/Auburn’s Greek Festival runs all weekend, so feel free to make return trips. In between, check out some lady arm wrestling, help Sebago pick hops (in exchange for a beer and lunch), race your dachshunds at Wienerfest, and let the phrenologist assess your noggin during the Victorian Fair at Victoria Mansion.

There’s no lack of action on Fourth of July, but what happens after the fireworks end? There’s still a whole weekend to consider. If your hankering for colorful explosions in the sky isn’t yet sated, head out to Chebeague Island for the Chebeague Chebang, where fireworks will cap off a day of barbecue, music, and sack races. There’s a wine sail Friday, and Art Walk returns, too. And on Sunday, seize the opportunity to throw things at runners (soft, gentle, colorful things that the runners want you to throw at them).

Celestial song lead by the choral group “Mainely Harmony” helps Gardiner residents summons the magic of the holidays by bringing to light the official tree in Downtown Gardiner from 5:30 to 6:30pm on Saturday, Dec. 1st. The glow from these lights endures throughout the month of December as a number of events help to make the season bright.
