Use it or lose it, Portland: Cryptozoology Museum may retire to Florida
Loren Coleman, who runs the museum on Avon Street, said winter has been especially tough and the museum isn’t making rent.
“We really want to stay in Portland. But if we don’t get more support from Mainers we may be forced to move to a tourist-oriented area, like the St. Augustine area, for a broader year-round base of admissions in the next five years,” Coleman said. “But we are very loyal to Maine, and want to make it work here.”
Coleman said attendance and donations are the only way to keep the museum going. For more information visit the museum’s website. The museum is open 11-4 every day except Tuesday. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for kids.
