Contrary to what we learned in college, beer is not dinner. But dinner sure is made better when there’s beer involved. Chef Lee Skawinski of Portland’s Vignola Cinque Terre must think so, too. Hence his annual Allagash Beer Dinner and Beer and Cheese Tasting.

This year’s dinner takes place at Vignola Cinque Terre on January 17. And Allagash owner Rob Tod, along with beer master Jason Perkins, will be there to present Allagash’s array of Belgian-influence beers.

The four-course dinner will feature seven Allagash brews, and attendees will also have a chance to win tickets to the Beer and Cheese tasting, which takes place a couple of days later on January 19.

The beers to look forward to at dinner: Allgash White, Black, Grand Cru, Interlude, Yakuza, Mattina-Rossa & a special release. The beer dinner begins at 6 pm with a reception, followed by dinner and a cheese buffet.

The 6th annual Beer and Cheese Tasting boasts 30 types of artisan American and European cheese and 30 local craft beers and old world traditional-stle beers. The beer list includes Allagash, Oxbow, Rising Tide, and Maine Beer Co., among others.

Reservations are required for the tasting, which runs from 12-5 pm January 19.
