⇢ Esidore's Bistro @ Night features harmonious cross-cultural cooking

// AT A GLANCE
If you visit Esidore’s Bistro @ Night in Falmouth, don’t show up too early or you’ll run into Bernie’s Foreside, the diner-ish daytime resident of the same space. The two began sharing one restaurant late this summer, when chef J. Harris returned to Maine from Colorado. His eclectic, world-aware style of cooking borrows elements from several disparate cuisines – Mexican, Vietnamese, Japanese, just to name a few – while keeping everything he prepares gluten-free. Sure, his Maine pho is a little underspiced and awkward to eat, but the very ramen-like addition of sweet, crispy pork belly gives the dish life. Better are the creamy, well-seasoned cauliflower-and-chicken tikka and the soft coconut macaroons served with shards of crunchy peanut brittle. Service is good-humored and friendly, which makes sitting down with an Esidore’s burger served on a Brazilian pao de queijo roll an unexpected pleasure on a busy stretch of Route 1.
