The second-annual Claw Down, featuring lobster “bites” from 18 Boothbay-area chefs, was put on by the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Sept. 19. Celebrity chef Michele Ragussis (The Pearl, Rockland) was the MC for the event, held at Ocean Point Marina in East Boothbay. The sell-out crowd of 400 people, some local, some PFAs (People From Away), noshed on their fill of such diverse creations as lobster beignets and lobster canoli (the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice winners, respectively). Judges Kerry Altiero (Maine Lobster Chef of the Year 2012; Cafe Miranda, Rockland), renowned Maine food historian and author Sandy Oliver and (lucky) me, had the daunting task of choosing the top three lobster bites — which took place under “sequestration” (a marina laundry room festively decorated by the committee!) before guests arrived.
