Boys & Girls Clubs Spring for the Kids annual auction

Written by: mainetoday.com - - info@mainetoday.com

Supporters of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine gathered at the Cumberland Avenue club in Portland Friday night for the annual Spring for the Kids auction and fundraising dinner. Auction totals are being tabulated, but dinner guests pledged nearly $7,500 in flat-out donations to Fund a Need, which provides nutritious snacks and light meals at the Boys & Girls Clubs. More than 400 boys and girls in Southern Maine find a place to belong, fun activities, and academic support at clubs in Portland, South Portland, or Auburn/Lewiston–for just $5 a year. Many of the auction attendees are former club members with fond memories of their own days playing basketball and swimming at the Boys & Girls Club–or even at the Boys Club, as it was known in the 1950s.
