    Rum Riots kicks off with Tiki Cocktails

    Tiki got serious--sort of--with a 2-hour tasting and seminar at Hugo's as part of the full Portland Rum Riots weekend running through June 2. Portland Spirits Society partnered with Portland Hunt + Alpine Club and Eventide Oyster Co. and bartenders from The Yachtsman tiki bar of Philadelphia to bring the exotic world of tiki cocktails and all their backstory and lore to Maine rum lovers, who did indeed get their tiki on.     Mad Men, Mad Fashion: Into The Collection at Maine Historical Society drew an intimate crowd to a rather groovy event. 1960's and Mad Men TV series enthusiasts gathered to munch on snacks themed from the 60's while taking time to hear about and inspect a piece of the Historical Society's clothing collection from the era.

    Tahntay Parade @ Eastern Prom Portland

    The Tahntay Parade (pronounced tawn-tae) was a small but joyous spring celebration with a community potluck, puppets, masks, face paints, crown making, and more. The event was single handedly composed by Amanda Panda who spear heads Music and Magic Maine. This is a not for profit who's charitable donations go toward giving instruments to kids. The parade was comprised of children and community members dressed in costumes dancing up and around the Eastern Promenade, it was complimented the spectacular weather and high spirits of all attendees.

    Kite Festival @ Bug Light Park South Portland

    The annual Kite Festival at Bug Light Park in South Portland, what a wondrous sight to behold. The park was filled with laughing children, moms, dads, and family pets. Everyone flying kites, having picnics, enjoying kite races and chasing bubbles. It really was extraordinarily picturesque.

    Portland Rugby: Pig and Beer on the Pier @ Maine State Pier Portland

    Pig and beer on the pier indeed. Rugby lovers gathered to celebrate and raise funds for Maine Rugby Club on the Maine State Pier in Portland. The happy, energetic, beer drinking, BBQ eating, rugby loving crowd was serenaded by the lively local Celtic rock band The Pub Crawlers.     Into The Mud Challenge @ Gorham Middle School

    Into The Mud Challenge at Gorham Middle School drew a huge crowd this morning. Runners, children, and spectators all gathered on the field for the first flag wave at 10:45 a.m. Participants had a 2.5 mile obstacle course to conquer . Obstacles included a slip and slide, a jello pit, and of course the infamous mud pool which challengers dove into, ran, tripped, and swam across. They were met at the finish line with bottles of cold water and cheering onlookers.
