Hot on the heels of the largest and most prestigious mountain film festivals in the world, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will return for its twelfth year to Portland on Sunday, February 10 and Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7pm at the State Theatre in Portland. There will be different film menus each night. Complete menus for each night can be found on the attached press release. The Banff program, including the intermission, is approximately three hours.

This year’s selection of over two hours of magnificent cinematography each night tells powerful stories that reflect a wide range of mountain experiences and portraits from mountain sports to mountain culture and the environment. Some highlights …

Crossing the Ice (42) – awarded Grand Prize and also Best Adventure Film. Two Australian adventurers dare to tackle the perilous journey across Antarctica to the South Pole and back again, completely unassisted.

In Gimp Monkeys (8′) – Three friends attempt the first all-disabled ascent of Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan.

Reel Rock 7: Honnold 3.0 – awarded Best film on Climbing, follows Alex Honnold, known as the boldest soloist of his generation, but how does he balance pure ambition with self-preservation?

1st Afghan Ski Challenge – Banff, Best Film Mountain Sports – In a quiet corner of this conflicted country, gutsy first-time skiers learn to ski through trial by fire!
