Perhaps all those renovation efforts are starting to pay off, as the Tom Petty show will certainly be the biggest act to appear there since the Cumberland County Civic Center revealed its new look in February.

The $34 million renovation isn’t the only change concertgoers will notice. The venue might be going by its new name by August: Cross Insurance Arena.

Bangor-based Cross Insurance bought the naming rights just this week. (But it might always remain “the Civic Center” in the hearts of folks who’ve been attending Portland Pirate games, Stars on Ice and concerts there for decades.)

And while we’re excited to welcome Tom and the Heartbreakers to Portland in August, there’s another show coming to the Civic Center next month that showcases well-known Maine musicians. The Maine Music Awards Hall of Fame Show includes performances by Don McLean, Howie Day, Ellis Paul and Dave Mallett, as well as special guests Devonsquare and Carol Noonan, all inductees to The Maine Music Hall of Fame.

Tickets for the July 12 show are $39 to $69 and are available at themainemusicawards.com or ticketmaster.com
