She has been obsessed with - and inspired by - music since she listened to Monkees records borrowed from the town library when she was six years old. She bought her first Rolling Stones record at a flea market when she was in 7th grade and discovered David Bowie a year later. The joy of opening a new record never gets old…Happy Record Store Day!

Saturday, April 19 is Record Store Day and as vinyl fans know, this is a glorious occasion. Tons and tons of artists release special, limited edition records and everyone pretty much freaks out. Read Ray Routhier’s story all about it right here.

As for me, sure I’ve got my eye on a couple of things but mostly I’m just glad that Record Store Day exists because I absolutely LOVE RECORDS and have been buying them since I was in the fourth grade.

To document my love of records, I give you this short homage to vinyl shot by my colleague Wendy Almeida.

I brought my record player in from home and opened a new record while Wendy shot the process of unwrapping it, smelling it, admiring it and lastly putting it on the turntable.

The record you’ll see is from one of my new favorite bands Arc Iris who I saw at Space a few weeks ago. I bought the record at the show and have been waiting two weeks to open it!

The wait ended today. And it went a little something like this:
