That’s right ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got ourselves something called a  SUPERMOON. Our favorite chuck of celestial cheese is closer to the earth than normal this weekend so stay up late and gaze, howl, dance and sing to the moon!

such a super moon

Here are some moon-inspired  songs I’ve chosen just for the occasion. (you won’t find R.E.M’s “Man on the Moon,”  on the list because that’s one of few songs by them that I don’t really like…sorry!)

I’ll start with my absolute favorite version of my favorite “moon” song…“Moon River” by Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

This brings us to another  longtime fav…“The Killing Moon” by Echo & the Bunnymen

And of course, “Moonshadow” by Cat Stevens

Here’s “The Whole of the Moon” by The Waterboys

And of course “It’s Only a Paper Moon” by Ella Fitzgerald

“Moonage Daydream” by David Bowie

“Blue Moon Revisted,” by Cowboy Junkies

“I Wish I Was the Moon” by Neko Case

“Fly Me to the Moon” by The Chairman of the Board… Mr. Frank Sinatra

I’ll end with this piece of musical perfection: “Pink Moon,” by Nick Drake
