Amish Country in Aroostook County

A few miles down a country road from where I grew up in Aroostook County springs new life of an Amish community. And in what better place can you find rather inexpensive farmland and turn of the century farmhouses than Fort Fairfield, ME. Property values in the Canadian-border town are relatively cheap in comparison to the rest of the state. Simply yank out the electrical wires, slap a pump on the well and you’re that much closer to planting seed and looking forward to harvest. More and more Amish families have appeared in the last 10 years, bringing with them an influentially simpler way of life. More and more folks have begun taking interest in the simple, yet satisfying way of life. Self-sufficiency is something to be praised at this day in age. Here are a few snap shots from smiling pigs to homesteads.
