Laura Serino

After visiting Maine only a handful of times, Laura Serino packed up her studio apartment in New York City and headed north for "the way life should be." After a summer on North Haven island, she and her boyfriend, a Maine native, settled in Portland, Maine. Serino is a former magazine editor who has been published in national and regional publications. When she isn't blogging, she spends her time antiquing, scouring thrift shops, exploring new places in Maine and cozying up to her cat Jasper. She recently completed her first book, "Twentysomething Girl, 1001 Quick Tips and Tricks to Make Your Life Easier." Reach her at info@forefrontfashion.com Follow her: @ForeFrontFash

Toast your girlfriends event

If you’re headed to Freeport this weekend to indulge in a little retail therapy (or to thrift it up), make sure you swing by Jill McGowan (56 Main Street) on Saturday for their “Toast Your Girlfriends” event from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bonus: Jill herself will be there, so it’s the perfect chance to ask for some styling help directly from the designer.  My sources tell me that some bubbly might be there too.  You’ll also receive a 20% off coupon in case you’re looking to treat yourself or start checking gifts off your holiday list.

Jill McGowan manufactures all her clothing right here in the USA – many of them in the great state of Maine. Her brand started small with just one product: the classic white shirt. With a background as a pattern maker in the menswear industry, Jill was on a mission to improve the fit and quality of women’s clothes. Her flagship store, based in Freeport, is an ideal place to pick up fundamental pieces for your wardrobe. Learn more about Jill here and check our her facebook page for more about the event.
