I read this insanely interesting article over on Mint.com’s blog about how much women spend on cosmetics. I consider myself to be pretty low-maintenance. A swipe of mascara, a little blush, concealer should a pimple pop up. But if you’re a major make-up junkie, you’ll probably spend $15,000 on make-up in your lifetime. Before you faint, here are some ways to save.
First weight splurge versus save. For foundation and blush, they recommend you splurge. After all, this is the basis of your make-up routine and they will also have longer shelf life if you purchase a high-end brand. But for the rest of it? Mascaras, lipsticks and eye shadows are aplenty at your local drugstore. And there are much more affordable. I am a Revlon lipstick devotee.
They also suggest reading reviews before you buy anything (I do this religiously!), ask for free samples of higher-end products and to join rewards clubs at your local Sephora or beauty store.
