This project is a really easy way to spruce up a pair of tired gloves – or simply adorn a plain pair as a gift. I bought these at a dollar store and bought the yarn at Michael’s. In addition, you’ll need scissors and a piece of cardboard that you’ll want to wrap your yarn around. I’d make sure your cardboard piece is at least 6″ wide.
In order to make the pom poms, you want to start wrapping your yarn around a piece of cardboard, leaving one end dangling. Bend your cardboard as shown above. The more you wrap the cardboard, the bigger your pom pom will be. If you’re looking to make a smaller size, wrapping it around 20 times should do the trick. Feel free to experiment – I tend to like my pom poms a bit bigger! Once you’re done wrapping, cut off a piece of yarn and string it through the center (where the triangle bottom appears) and tie it off. Once you’ve tied it, you can cut through the yarns at the top of the triangle and take it off. Or if it’s too hard to cut that way, slip all the yarn off your cardboard and be left with this:
Once you’ve cut through all the loops, your pom pom is done.
Admittedly, this doesn’t look impressive yet. Your next step is to trim your pom pom so it starts to look like the shape you want. Or if you’re a better crafter than me, it might already be perfect. Up to you.
Now that you have the pom pom shape you want, place your pom pom where you’d like it to be on your glove. I attached mine with some needle and thread, but heavy-duty craft glue would also do the trick.
And there you have it. An easy gift to make out of items you probably already have kicking around your home.
