Stuff we love: Boda’s quail eggs, Haberdashery’s teases, my dad’s hat

Written by: Heather Steeves

In an effort to show some love to our old favorites we present “Stuff We Love” a weekly exploration of  … stuff … that we love. Doesn’t have to be new or newsworthy. Just has to be awesome.

1. Stopping at Boda for a snack and a drink after work

“You’re going to think these taste like one thing, but they will taste like something else,” one friend told me as I scooped up a quail egg ($7 for 7). She was right. At first all I could taste was the crunchy scallions on top, then the soft yolk, followed by a punch of soy sauce flavor and then the kicker of the crispier part of the egg white. Yummm. I paired it with a Thai Tea Margarita. If you’ve enjoyed one of those condensed-milk non-alchoholic Thai iced teas, it’s just like that … but substitute tequila for condensed milk. The drink is sweet and has a bit of nutmeg in it.

2. This bathing suit

Haberdashery on Congress has been teasing me with this bathing suit all week. I stare at it through the thrift store’s window as I shiver.

3. Winter sunsets

4. This hat

Credit to my dad, who sent it to me for Christmas. So I could enjoy winter sunsets.

Have something you love that we should add to next week’s list? Send me a note. HSteeves@MaineToday.com
