Holiday dining guide: Maine restaurants open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Whether you choose a formal, white tablecloth dinner, outrageous sandwiches, egg rolls and stir-fries, French cuisine or Italian fare, Maine restaurants are open and ready to serve you on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. For most of the following, reservations are recommended. Check back for updates.

BRUNSWICK

But if you’re willing to walk a little farther with your plate, you can enjoy the same menu at the inn’s casual and cozy Broad Arrow Tavern from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $60 per person. Among the highlights: Roast prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, lobster and avocado salad, and Bali-style seared duck breast with confit leg and squash risotto cake. Or, order from the Tavern’s a la carte menu. First come, first served.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day: The over-the-top sandwich shop is open regular hours (11 a.m.-7 p.m.) and serving the regular menu, which means you’re in luck if you’re craving a crazy-good creation like the Double Dragon (shaved steak, pastrami, nacho cheese, grilled onion, Russian dressing and homemade cole slaw) or The Flaming Mobster ( 1/4-pound burger dipped in buffalo sauce, topped with crispy bacon, lettuce, mayo, nacho cheese and tender fried lobster). Try to save room for one of their outrageous desserts, because it’s Christmas, after all.

It begins with homemade duck confit and shrimp wonton soup and finishes with tempura-fried bananas, green tea ice cream and ginger-chocolate ganache — which frankly sounds much better than fruitcake.
