All you can eat: 15 fall food and drink events in Maine

Cheese seafood, barbecue, wine and beer, beer, beer.  There’s never a shortage of food and drink events in Maine, but the fall calendar seems to be especially full of them. We’ve rounded up a hearty smorgasbord of food festivals, dinners, and more tasty happenings around the state.

Oct. 8: Beer and sausage tasting

Little Tap House, Portland
“Belgians & Stouts to Benefit Greyhound Snouts” will raise funds for Maine Greyhound Placement Service. The cost is $30 per person.

Oct. 10: Rutherford Wine Dinner

Natalie’s at the Camden Harbour Inn, Camden
Chef Jon Gaboric’s luxurious, five-course menu includes Caviar with Buttermilk Custard and Wagyu Steak with Foie Gras. The cost is $125 per person.

Oct 12: Swine and Stein

Downtown Gardiner
It’s the place where pork products and craft beer are celebrated the way they should be: Together. The 4th annual Swine & Stein promises farm-to-table pork (get your pig on bread, plate, or stick) and other local offerings, Maine craft beers, and a lineup of local live music from Maine bands. And if pork isn’t your pleasure, there will even be a local harvest supper that will serve vegetarian samples.

Oct. 12: Taste of Thomaston

The Knox Museum, Thomaston
James Beard-award winning chef Melissa Kelly of Primo is one of the chefs participating in this daytime tasting event on the grounds of the museum. Others include Kerry Altiero of Cafe Miranda in Rockland; Scott Yakavenko of The Slipway in Thomaston; Herbert Peters of Thomaston Cafe; and Manuel Mercier of The Youngtown Inn in Lincolnville, plus a host of other food artisans. Admission to the festival is $10 for adults, $8 for people between the ages of 21 and 35 and seniors 62 and older, and free for museum members.

Oct. 13: Maine Huts & Trails Fall BBQ

Poplar Falls Hut, Kingfield
The 2.4 mile hike in will work up your appetite for this year’s menu, which includes squash soup, corn bread, pulled pork, baked beans, apple cider and more. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase. There will be outdoor activities for kids and of course, beautiful fall foliage. Cost: Free for members; $15 for non-members; $7 for children.

Oct. 14-18: Place Settings Restaurant Week

Camden/Rockland/Rockport
Five restaurants will donate half an evening’s proceeds to the Coastal Mountains Land Trust during Place Settings Restaurant Week, Oct. 14-18. The proceeds will directly fund the trust’s land conservation programs.

Oct. 16: Kitchen Garden Dinner Series with Christopher Anderson

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay
The chef of Wings Hill Inn and Restaurant in Belgrade Lakes presents a four-course fall dinner, including Wild Mushroom Pudding with Mushroom Toast and Fresh Yogurt Cheese and Slow-Roasted Duck Breast with Caramelized Brussels Sprouts and Crispy Rice Cake. Cost: $90 for non-members; $75 for members, including wine and gratuities.

Oct. 19: Mine Oysterfest

16 Wharf St., Pier 1, Boothbay Harbor
The popular waterfront restaurant closes out its season with an oyster celebration featuring $1 Glidden Point oysters all day; draft beer specials; oyster shucking contest, live music and more.

Oct. 23: Italian Wine Dinner

Piccolo, Portland
Damian Sansonetti hosts a special dinner at his new restaurant with wines from Peter Warren Selections. Cost: $75. For reservations: 207-747-5307.

Nov 3: Brewer’s Kitchen

Port City Music Hall, Portland
A first-ever component of Beer Week, this pairings event brings together 15 Maine breweries with 15 local restaurants, including Funky Bow/East Ender and Peak Organic/LFK. Guests will vote for the best pairing at the end of the event. The cost is $80.

Nov. 7: Maine Beer Dinner

Sea Glass at Inn by the Sea, Cape Elizabeth
Chef Mitchell Kaldrovich presents a dinner featuring beers from Allagash Brewing Co. The four courses include Baked Winter Squash Cassoulet paired with Hugh Malone and Chocolate Carrot Cake paired with Curieux. The cost is $42.

Nov. 10: Flanagan’s Table with Krista Kern Desjarlais

The Barn at Flanagan Farm, Buxton
The acclaimed chef of Bresca and the Honey Bee is next on the star-studded roster of chefs cooking for this monthly dinner series. Set inside a beautiful barn the five-course dinners feature local produce, cheese, meats, and pantry staples alongside wine and Maine beer. A percentage of proceeds benefits the Maine Farmland Trust. Reservations open Oct. 14.
