There’s definitely a fondness for helmet cams.   Since she arrived in Maine from the Midwest seven years ago, it’s been her mission to experience it all firsthand – from the cardboard boat races to the paddleboard jousting tournaments. With any luck, she’ll persuade you to try it, too.

First there was Stache Pag. Then came the Moustache Film Festival. And then a multi-day event solely dedicated to the unabashed appreciation for facial hair: Facial Hair Fest. But the celebration just keeps growing (as mustaches are wont to do).

This year’s addition: the Bearded Brewfest. Because beer. And beard.

The Facial Hair Fest run from March 21-27, starting with the Beard Brewfest on March 21 at Sullivan Gym in Portland. Local breweries like Allagash, Baxter Brewing, Gritty’s, Sebago Brewing and Urban Farm Fermentory will be in attendance, as well as others yet to be announced (more to come Feb. 1, according to the press release). There are two sessions for the event, 1 to 4 p.m. or 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $27.50 in advance or $30 the day of. To get tickets: www.statetheatreportland.com

There’s a Moustache Film Festival at Empire in Portland on March 24 and 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Stash of the Titans, also at Empire, on March 25 (Toto takes on Hall & Oates).

And then, the Stache Pag. Oh, you lovely Stache Pag. The mustache pageant and celebration of facial hair returns for the 8th year (8th!) on March 27 at State Theatre. The pageant affords mustache wearers an opportunity to let their staches take center stage. Men and women compete in four categories: The Magnum PI (natural mustache), The 1899 Maine Legislature (styled mustache, no beard), The Thigh Tickler (anything goes) and the Castaway (full beard, natural). They’ll each have the chance to showcase their stache’s personality on the catwalk and in front of a panel of celebrity judges. The crowd will have its say, too. Pageant starts 9 p.m. and tickets are $20 in advance and $30 the day of. To get tickets: www.statetheatreportland.com
