Shop Talk: Plum
Shoshanna. Nanette Lepore. Kate Spade. Free People. Armani Exchange. Tibi. I could go on and on, but instead, I suggest you pop into Plum Boutique (316 Congress Street), one of the newest consignment shops in Portland and browse through the amazing selection of higher-end designs. Owner Kelly Williams has been in retail for awhile, having ran shops in Pittsburgh and Massachusetts before moving back to Maine. As a resident of the hill herself, she’s happy to be added to the roster of neighborhood stores. “I hope Plum becomes a spot where customers come in regularly so I know them by name,” she says.
Inventory at Plum moves fast, so chances are if you’re looking for something one day, you might want to check back later in the week for more new arrivals. And depending on your style, it’s easy to shop. Williams does a great job at organizing the racks – black and white staples here, bright, bold prints there – so it’s easy to browse by taste. Williams hopes that she’ll host shopping events that will keep the shop open late, for ladies that can’t get into the store until after 5 p.m. She doesn’t want anyone to miss out on what Plum has to offer.
